A friend got Lasik surgery, and the surgeon said that people who where glasses on a long term basis will eventually have smaller eyes because the glasses somehow shrink the eyeball.
Is this true? Every doctor has a different opinion on things, so what have you heard?

If that were true, my grandfather should have had enormous bug-eyes in his old pictures. His eyes actually looked the same as they did when he was in his seventies.

Same goes for my parents who have also worn glasses for most of their lives.

Since I have never come across any reliable evidence that says glasses shrink your eyes, I think this surgeon is just using a scare tactic hoping that your friend will tell everyone she knows, refer them to him and that he will get more money.

Wow, I've never heard this. I wear glasses on a limited basis (I wear contacts most days). I only need them to see the chalkboard at school and driving. I always worried about becoming dependent on them but now there are more worries. LOL!

lol, i know.

isn't that a weird thing to tell patients though, even if just for marketing purposes?

There are NO factual evidence showing this to be TRUE. Oh,
what some doctors will do or say to get money out of someone. :innocent:

If anything, the more you wear glasses your eyes just depend more
on you wearing glasses. Some have shown that your vision may get
more blurry, but that's because your eyes have adjusted to your
prescription. I for one, when I have been wearing my glasses all day
and later I take them off, my vision is very blurry. But when I wake
up in the morning the next day my eyes are less blurry. I've been
wearing my lenses since freshman year in highschool. My eyes are still
the same size. Silly doctors...
