More surprising than Raquel's success is her down to earth personality that this gaucha from Novo Hamburgo keeps in this business of fashion. "My career grew up step by step, it wasn't fast". Daughter of a beekeeper the blonde grew up cutting her knees while playing with her brother, who's one year older than her. "Even though my mom used to dress me like a doll, I was always very playful, I loved to climb in trees and play with pipes". She doesn't deny her gastronomic preferences. "For me, there's nothing as good as a barbecue"
It was Raquel's friends from school that said to Raquel, the tallest on the classroom, to try to be a model. She started modeling when she was 14 and quicly moved to foreign lands: Tokyo, New York, Paris. "It took some time for things to start happening" she reminds. In that period of time she kept the thought that you always have to keep trying forever. "Fashion is a job. It only works when we're serious, polite and we try" she says. "It's wonderful when you're able to realize the photographer's dream, transform yourself, travel. So, why would I get late and leave everybody waiting?.
Who's always with her comfirms how serious she is at work. "Besides her clasical beauty, Raquel is different for her professionalism and posture. She's sophisticated and extremelly polite to people" says Laura Vieira, business partner of Ten Model Magament, her agency in Brazil. The owner of Viva agency, Cyril Brule, who takes care of her business in Paris, says. "She's super professional comparing to the other brazilians who are always thinking everything is ok". Then Raquel says: "Please, don't talk bad things about the brazilians".
Without a doubt another thing that put Raquel in the number 2 on the site models.com it's a passion she has for fashion. "One of my pleasures is to, at the time of the show, see all the clothes before everybody. And see the new trends. I like that! That's the essence of my job." The efect is notable, she gets the clothes and give them a super chic stylein simple productions.
Daily, the model likes a rock style. "I love leather jackets, boots and vintage t-shirts." Her look is not just a look, she actually knows how to play guitar and carrys her iPod everywhere where she listens much more heavy songs than her sweet blue eyes would suggest, like Metallica.
It has been six years that Raquel dates the photographer Ruy Sanchez Blanco, who she lives with in NY. "He taught me spanish and I taught him portuguese, but we always talk in english" tells Raquel. By now I don't have any plans of moving to Brazil, where the model is exclusive for Animale. "When I think of what I'm going to do next I think I'll live on this country which I love so much, but the thought never last too much". "I want to travel to whole world, a real trip, not one where you spend most of the time on the plane"
About a plan B, she hasn't decided yet. She knows, however, she wants to work in a "creative job" and doesn't think about plastic surgery. The day that she'll retire, anyway, seems to be far away.
