Since 2010, she became the first of the world's top ranking of the respected website Models.com to select a small group of women who represent the most powerful female images of her time. That is, she reached the top and extrapolated the top. In it-list of the most beautiful and powerful, ranks with two other Brazilian Gisele Bundchen and Isabeli Fontana, and international stars such as Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell. This recognition, according to the blonde born in Bom Retiro do Sul (RS), is the result of hard work, persistence and a continued work to overcome and learn at every opportunity. If she thought it would go this far? "I'm always amazed with everything that happens to me. For starters, I never thought of modeling. When I was discovered by a scout in Porto Alegre, at 14, I never thought I looked like a woman. It was the grunge style, played basketball, I looked like a boy," recalls the 5'9" gaucho. Over time, however, Raquel was realizing that with the help of the right clothes, elaborate hairstyles and makeup, could become as well liked.
Transformation, in fact, is a word in her career guide. The big fashion professionals do not tire of praising her way to be chameleonic. Luis FIOD, creative director of Brazilian Animale, with which it maintains exclusive rights for six years (a rare case for national standards) confirms this quality: "She lives each story with intensity and can really give life to the female characters that characterize the different collections of the brand. "
The beauty artist Saul Fonseca, who has to make up some work, comes the chorus: "Raquel has the rare quality of mimicry. She can be a lady of royalty, a 15th century Spanish, a rockabilly boy, a sexy goddess and also a elegant woman. It is a synthesis of what we mean by 'model'. " Raquel got to hear one's own Gisele that she was the best model of the Brazilian market.
This style "mutant" has earned, including suggestions for her to turn actress. "I think a cliché story of the model that begins to play, but I've heard it so many photographers that I started thinking more about it and if you see the right project, I analyze," she says.
The top can even show a little more turn "actor" in commercials, like the perfume Gucci by Gucci, directed by David Lynch, Gareth Pugh and the brand, directed by photographer Nick Knight. The two artists-creators had, indeed, a massive part in her career. With Lynch, Racqul discovered transcendental meditation, which led her to quit smoking, have a healthier diet and be more calm. Knight, who gave her great work, also made her known to Lady Gaga, who, in turn, invited her to join the clip Born This Way. "Behind the exotic figure, there is a very nice girl and family," says Raquel on the pop diva. "It was a great experience working with her. Much laughter on set."
Rachel says that the good work that went collecting in recent years have a great connection with the "godfather" Steven Meisel. After the top photographer to put on the cover of Vogue Italy, first in 2000 and then in 2002, things really began to happen: she posed for the major magazines and campaigns and has done runway shows in New York and Europe.
Her first major accomplishment was the opening of one at Prada in 2003. Soon after, Raquel assured presence in the team of Victoria's Secret beauties. Other highlights? The unprecedented brand of star three consecutive campaigns for Louis Vuitton and the long contract with the powerful cosmetics company Shiseido. It is also impossible not to mention the campaign in which Alexander McQueen appears wrapped in snakes. In Fall 2011, she has appeared (yet) in seven campaigns.
Among her most recent photos to the designer Yves Saint Laurent to very marked. In addition to working again with the beloved duo of photographers Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin, was because of this campaign that she got to know their style icon Patti Smith. Raquel was attending an opera that was being sponsored by the brand and ran there with the singer, who, like her, has a classic style with a rock footprint. "I love to wear shirts, motorcycle boots and parts of the male uniform," says the model, who has been voted the best-dressed woman at the U.S. site Style.com.
In addition to Meisel, the Dutch duo, Nick Knight and the list of photographers who worked the first time to Brazil includes David Sims, Mario Soretti, Patrick Demarchelier, Anne Leibovitz, Terry Richardson, Ellen von Unwerth, Mario Testino and Juergen Teller, for those who posed nude alongside actress Charlotte Rampling. "It's been almost 15 years in the profession, and as time passed, I became more comfortable with my body."
In personal life, the model is known for her low profile way. Like to meet friends, take care of her plants and enjoy cultural programs. She has been a fan of skateboarding, but after a nasty fall, prefers surfing. Playing guitar and read books related to meditation are also one of her hobbies. And loves to learn new things, turns and moves a course begins, which ends up bringing more consistency to the projects she gets involved.
The challenges ahead? "No program what will happen. For now, I keep doing what I do because that's what I like best. If everything is as good as now, that's great."
