Rayban wayfarers #1

hey guys, I need some help.

I bought the red METRO wayfarers a few months back (still have the box, receipt and all the packaging) but I've decided they're too bold for me. so I did a post on craigslist offering to trade someone mine for wayfarers in black or tortoise.

I got a response from someone local today who said she wants to trade. She sent me photos of hers, but I'm a bit skeptical since they're labeled 2140's but they kinda look more like the new wayfarers shape, which is the 2132's I think.

do they look legit? any tips would be good. I know mine are legitimate, I just want to make sure I get a fair trade. thoughts? As I said she's local so I can see them in person, just want to make sure it's worth the effort.

thanks

here are the photos she sent me:

They don't look like the 2140's to me. Have her send you a photo of the arm interior - it will clearly show the model #.

they look more like 2140's in the last photo, but not in the first. But it does say 2140 on the arm interior in the second photo... should it be printed somewhere else?

Hey be really careful because it is hard to tell from pictures, the differences between real and fakes is very subtle. The things to look out for are the RB etching on the right lens, usually visible when you tilt it to the light. Also when you hold the temples horizontally, the front should tilt in at an angle (the fakes don't). Unfortunately you can't really assess these things unless you have the pair in your hands!

thanks. the good news is that I'm meeting the seller in person, and we're potentially doing a trade (my red ones for his tortoise ones) and I know mine are genuine so I'll have something side by side to compare weight, shape etc.

i want the new wayfarer's! they are a little bit more style than the square and the clubmaster.

I find the fit of the new wayfarers a lot more comfortable than the classic ones, but I still like the look of the old ones better. My new wayfarers just don't slip down at all around my nose and also stay put on top of my head better if I put them up.

I've got to try these new wayfarers! The old ones look just ugly on my face...

I think wayfarers are classic and will never quite go out of style.

:-)

They are very versatile in style too. You can look classy, hip, trendy, or even d-baggish with these glasses. I think their flexibility in meaning is what makes it so great.

Very true. Though a lot of members here might find them tacky and "mainstream" in some sense, they do manage to go with everything and are classically cool.

^^I agree. I have the XL version (polarized) and I think I'll be wearing them for many years to come.

agreed x3.. I love my wayfarers. I have been wearing them for literally like 3 years straight.

I am now on my first year with them. I still get compliments. They are just cool. B) I would definitely love another pair as well. These sunnies get it right.

True!! Ray Wayfarers are definitely classical. Anyway does anyone know there I can get prescription ones??

You can bring your RB frames to any eye dr. and they can fill it with your prescription clear or sunglasses.

theyre too populari see em everywhere. but theyre kinda nice. but i would not wanna buy it

Wikipedia is saying that Audrey Hepburn's famous Breakfast at Tiffany's sunglasses were actually persol and not Ray Ban wayfarers. I've only ever heard that they were an early version of the wayfarer design. I wonder if this could be true?
