 I think i'd need to start another topic for that...entitled "Remedy for Fashion Spotaholics?"

i think the only time when I've been perfectly content without shopping and didn't give it much thought was when i was travelling alot or spending a lot of time with my boyfriend (who didn't much like the whole browsing/shopping thing)...and eventually the HUNGER for it just faded away, or was put on the backburner for awhile....but now that i've found so many more online shops, i think one would have to block my internet AND lock me in my room

If I feel the need to be restricted but still want to shop, I just go out with my practical younger sister. She always brings me back to earth, and has saved me from many a silly purchase. :ninja:

Some shopping tips from the great Schiaparelli... :flower:

1. Since most women do not know themselves they should try to do so.
2. A woman who buys an expensive dress and changes it, often with disastrous result, is extravagant and foolish.
3. Most women (and men) are color-blind. They should ask for suggestions.
4. Remember-twenty percent of women have inferiority complexes. Seventy percent have illusions.
5. Ninety percent are afraid of being conspicuous, and of what people will say. So they buy a gray suit. They should dare to be different.
6. Women should listen and ask for competent criticism and advice.
7. They should choose their clothes alone or in the company of a man.
8. They should never shop with another woman, who sometimes consciously or unconsciously, is apt to be jealous.
9. She should buy little and only of the best or cheapest.
10. Never fit a dress to the body, but train the body to fit the dress.
11. A woman should buy mostly in one place where she is known and respected, and not rush around trying every new fad.
12. And she should pay her bills.

Sure. ;)
You could also just try bringing along someone who is very down-to-earth and money-conscious. I find that this cures my desire to shop without draining my wallet. :D

you guys should read the Confessions of a Shopaholic books. There soo funny and I could totally relate to them. I always find that if you try to preoccupy yourself by doing other things it would help you think less about shopping. for me, now until June all I'm really concentrating on is working out and trying to look good for the summer..cause what's the point of having all those nice cloths if your going to look like a slob in them..right? ;)

in the words of diana ross...

'i don't need no cure...'....

I pretend-shop online whenever I feel the urge to buy something new. I fill up my shopping cart with anything and everything I want, regardless of price. When I proceed to check out and see the total amount (which is usually in the $2000+ range) I just close my browser and feel damn good that I didn't spend all that money. It's actually quite satisfying . . . or maybe I'm just a freak :woot:

You're a genius!!! I'm definitely doing that from now on :D

But my friend is muchhh worse than me. She gets head aches in the morning from thinking of her 'wishlist' at night.

try everything on and convince myself that it doesn't look good on me.

of course this has a 50% failure rate =/

Pretend you're Catholic (if you're not) and say you've given up shopping for Lent. That way other people won't bug you to go shopping with them. :P

ha, ha, ha... i am Catholic myself... but still it doesnt work!

Sonny xxx

^that's dangerous. One of my girl friends gave up shopping for lent, and then she bought even more after lent. It back fired...

hmmm...
not that i was ever an outrageous shopper, but i stopped using credit cards for shopping two years ago...
now i have to know that i can really afford something rather than swipe it on my american express...

i must say i feel so much more in control now...
;)

but of course, to each his own...

i've done the same calexico...
debit cards and cash only...

I have my mom. She brings me back to earth, and I tend to hit the ground hard...

Also, being a 17 year old who just recently started working - it takes a whole week to get a SHIRT.

A FREAKING DESIGNER SHIRT.

:flower:

so when I'm about to buy something, I say - how many hours of work was that? That discourages me from making the purchase.

but then I ask myself, what am I really working for?

a freaking designer shirt, of course

*CACHING*

As much as I'm probably hated for this, if I'm even a tad bit unsure about whatever it is I want, I'll put it on hold and keep shopping. Then towards the end of the day I'll go back and think about what I actually want. Works for me pretty well!

I'd also suggest leaving all credit cards at home and just bring as much cash as you're willing to spend... although the "Would you like to sign up for our *blah blah* card and save 10%?" might still be tempting for some!

Do not take ur debit or credit card. That sure keeps me from overshopping when i have to actually look at the money or bills iam dishing out for that spur of the moment shopping and once the money is done, u can only window shop:D :D :D .

thats a good idea but the problem for me with that is, the places i shop at they store my card information int he computer so i technically dont have to bring my card to buy something...bummer
