Saw this throwback post on HB's instagram account and it got me wondering, why didn’t Avedon return to Bazaar after being dismissed by Anna when she took over Vogue? Especially during the Liz Tilberis years, when I’m sure he would have been welcomed with open arms.

According to the Richard Avedon biography that I haven't finished reading... First of all, he resigned after Anna made him re-shoot a potential cover, twice. He bought out his contract with Conde Nast. It sounds like he was just over it. He hadn't gotten along well with Grace Mirabella and by the time Anna came around, he was done. The impression I get, is that he wouldn't have gone back to a fashion magazine if he was offered (could Bazaar have afforded him?). He became a staff photographer for The New Yorker shortly after, anyway.
