It wasn’t until January 2011 that he began to make a splash in the modeling scene. He began to get some recognition ever since his first debut in The NY Times T Magazine. Interview
01 – Hi, RJ! How are you?
S*h*i*t*ty. JUST KIDDING.
02 – Could you tell us a little bit about yourself and how you were discovered?
I’m from St. Louis Missouri and I was scouted at a store that I was working in at the time.
03 – Do you prefer doing runway or editorial? Why?
I enjoy both. Editorial allows you to be more expressive and runway gives you such an adrenaline rush. I would probably say that I prefer runway only because I get to be with all of my friends.
04 – What do you like the most about fashion week?
Seeing everyone and the parties!
05 – What were you thoughts on modeling before you started?
The only thing that I had thought about was the fact that my sister was a model and that she hated it. I figured if the opportunity ever came up for me that I would give it a shot because I really love to travel.
06 – What were some of the feedbacks that you got when you first started modeling?
The first thing I did was an online editorial for New York Times: T Magazine and from there I went on to book a number of shows during NYFW. It all happened pretty quickly.
07 – Tell us three things that you like most about modeling?
Friends, travel and free stuff.
08 – What would you be doing if you weren’t modeling?
In business school, hating life.
09 – What’s your favorite and least favorite feature about yourself?
I leave that for other people to answer.
10 – Describe a day in your life when you’re free.
Sleeping, hanging out in the agency and eating!!!!!
11 – Do you think it’s hard to work in the modeling industry, especially for male models? Would you say there’s a strong competition going on?
It’s hard in the sense that you have to wait your turn and that it’s not always so glamorous. I guess there is competition between some guys, but my friends and I aren’t like that.
12 – Can you tell us something valuable to you that you’ve learned from working as a model?
PATIENCE!
13 – Guilty pleasures?
Fast food and booze.
14 – What have been the highlights of your career so far?
Doing the Prada exclusive in Milan and shooting 2 covers for the same month.
15 – Any advice for young, aspiring male models?
Have someone shoot you and then bring the pics into an agency. I was turned away by two agencies before I was picked up so don’t let rejection get you down.
