Rodarte F/W 2020.21 New York

I'm really intrigued on how well are they doing ?
I saw their clothes online and the price is insane and not a lots of stockists !! I know their t-shirt and sweatshirt were selling well and they could do a show this season means financially they are ok.

not sure how they're doing, but i actually love some of these gowns!

I wrote the exact same thing last season.

I'm honestly baffled as to how many stocklists they still have/how much they sell. I don't think any store here in London buys their clothes (no wonder) so I can't speak for the quality of their garments, but the wedding cakes I see here matched with the prices tags I assume they have...surely there can't be more than a few dozen people willing to buy these on Net-a-Porter's clearance sale?

One season later and I'm still baffled. Do they employ anyone? Do they make these on their kitchen counter? I can't imagine them having an actual studio/showroom, staff members etc. I still remember that article from years ago where they mentioned they still lived at their parents' home (makes sense on so many levels).

This looks like a terrible version of a D&G Alta Moda collection.

This looks to be one of their most retail friendly collections to date, imo. If they can get the price point down to a semi reasonable number, I can see them doing better in the long run.

A big ol barf emoji @ Meghan’s closing look though. Ugh.

It's really unfortunate watching the progression of Rodarte.

This is not good. It's heavily derivative of Miu Miu which is also bad with a bit of Nicolas at LV thrown in.

The finishing and construction leaves a lot to be desired. It's very sloppy and lazy in some areas. There are some pretty dresses here and there but nothing memorable and I don't see a reason to come back to this collection.

Some of those dresses wouldn’t be out of place in some Dolce & Gabbana Alta Moda collections.
It’s all either costumey, dated or kitsch. Their aura of « edgy » fashion and the make-up helps it look less tragic than it could have been...

This brand has been on life support longer than Proenza Schouler.

I was backstage at this show last night i must say i was very very impressed by them ..yess it's a little Dolce Gabbanarish but so what ...I enjoy going to fashion shows seeing beautiful made clothes structured on amazingly stunning models...i'm not really one for the creative intricacies of designers...just my perspective lol ...

Oh Kate and Laura. I had so much hope for them. It seems like their creativity stops here. The costume of kitsch period dramedy of sorts. Looking back at their early collection and you just wonder how did we get here. At least D&G has some sort of signature. Although I would say that Rodarte has some signatures of their own now. Maybe these are what selling at the end and that's why they stick with it.

I don’t know what this is all about.

They had a sort of mini-renaissance a few years back when they started doing more boho/disco collections...I thought that was a good evolution for their brand. It moved away from really theme-y shows but didn’t sacrifice their fantasy but also, maybe for the first time, offered some looks that were really retail viable...a perfect 70’s printed poet blouse with a p*ssy-bow tie, a shaggy fur coat, a thrift store beaded mini-skirt...

But now these last few collections and look books are just kind of dopey.

Frankly, on conceptual grounds, I wouldn’t mind these vintage 30’s, 40’s dresses they’re doing, but they’re not done well.

This collection is so all over the place. I don't know that I would ever really expect cohesiveness from them but this feels... next level messy to me.
