Roles you'd like to see...

This comes from a conversation I was having with friends over what types of roles we'd like to see certain actors play, or directors we'd like to see them work with. For example, a part of me (the ridiculous part) would love Gary Oldman to do a rom-com or I'd love to see Angelina Jolie work with Tarantino. Any long held ambitions for actor peoples?

Well one of my dream collaborations is about to come true, Angelina Jolie and David Fincher.
Apparently they're working on Cleopatra together.

I would love to see Kate Winslet play a tough, bada*s assassin or cop in a Martin Scorsese film.

I want to see Daniel Radcliffe in a Judd Apatow comedy. He's got great comedic timing.
His little guest role the UK show Extras was hilarious.

And I want Leonardo DiCaprio to do something light. Like a romantic comedy or something.

Mmm... Funny, I had a similar discussion today. Are we friends in real life perhaps? Anyhow, *my* friend was convinced James Franco must do p*rn. Told her is not gonna happen, but I think she's doing sacrificial rituals right now to beseech Tyche or someone to make that happen.

I'd love Cate Blanchett for some good horror/thriller movie. Kinda like The Gift.
Famke Janssen - needs a comedy, I think she'd be great in it. Or something from action genre, I actually think she'd been a better Eveline in Salt than Angeline Jolie was (even though I liked her as well).
Helena Bonham Carter as a Batman villain (poison Ivy?) or any other DC/Marvel villain, I just love her doing evil/crazy, point in case: Bellatrix Lestrange.
Christoper Lee... Villain, of course, but with tons of lines! I could listen to that sinister voice of his for days, weeks even! It's addictive!
Ben Barnes should play a total nutcase (he has those a bit freaky eyes) in asylum who's in there for some government conspiracy thing, and turns out he's not nuts at all, just was set up by the government. Or any other nutcase movie, as long it's dark, gloomy and people die. :shifty:
Ahh, and Megan Fox - more stuff like Jeniffer's Body. And then some severe role about dysfunctional family thing with John Noble as total control freak/r*pist father. :ninja: I sometimes kinda see something Lara Croft-ish in Magan, so maybe a Tomb Raider re-boot?

^Oh heck no. You're giving Megan Fox a little too much credit. She could not be Lara Croft.
It would be interesting to see her in some Indie film with no special effects or robots though.

Speaking of Cate Blanchett, it seems like she's already done every type of role imaginable, but I would love to see her work with Tim Burton. That would be an interesting collaboration.

I also want to see Natalie Portman, Carey Mulligan, Keira Knightley, etc in a gritty Quentin Tarantino film.
They're all such good girls. It would be interesting to see them in one his usual uber-violent movies.
Natalie hasn't done anything like that since The Professional.

I'm gonna flip it.

I wonder who'd make the best Holden Caufield. I'm glad Catcher in the Rye hasn't been made a movie yet, but filling the shoes of such a character is Holden is up to a pro.

Keira was actually quite good in Domino even if the film wasn't great and she handled herself well in the Pirates films, I'd love to see her step it up and really do something Tarantino-esque.

^Yeah she was excellent in Domino and POTC, so I know she has the chops for one of his films.

@papa levante: I've always seen Ryan Gosling as a Holden Caulfield type, but he may be too old for the role now.

Another famous literary character that I would love to see an update on is Rebecca.
That's a great book and I know a film already exists, but I would love to see what a modern filmmaker like Joe Wright or Tom Hooper could do with it.

ooooooooooooooooo, nice. Definitely see Ryan there, wow.

There are a lot of roles that I think should be redone. :innocent: A lot of what Anne Hathaway has done could easily be done by someone better. Not that I have any names right now that could do any better...

I fully agree with this. I would love to see him in a comedy or even have a continuous role on a television show like 30 Rock. I could see him playing some crazy character who gets on Liz's nerves (although who doesn't?).

Also, as for the Holden Caulfield role, I could see Logan Lerman playing such a role (except he's currently staring in The Perks of Being a Wallflower which is Catcher in The Rye-esque role... so don't see that happening!). Or perhaps someone like William Mosley (known for his role in the Narnia films)? I could see him playing such a role although he'd have to lose the British accent.

I think it would be interesting to see Emma Watson in a period piece, maybe something by Jane Austen? I have a feeling she could pull off such a role with ease and it would be great fun to see her in all the pretty dresses.

Also, Zooey Deschanel is somebody who I'd love to take on a more serious role, something which isn't comedy or an indie film. She's always given the "quirky girl role" which can be tiring and I think with the right role and director she could shake things up a bit.

But she'd look amazing a bit buffed up and in skimpy Croft outfits and that's like 1/3rd of the appeal, the other 2/3rds being kick-a$s-ness and posh lady like British accent.
Of course I respect your view on this, and therefore challenge you to find someone better suited for the role of Lara Croft. They really need to make some new movies! One can watch the re-runs only so many times...

Can Megan Fox even do a British accent? lol
What about someone like Ellen Page to play Lara Croft. A bit of an unexpected choice perhaps, but I thought she shined in Inception and maybe she could try her hand at the role. Plus, she always plays really kick a** ladies.

Or even having someone who played a Bond Girl be Lara Croft would be interesting to see. Eva Green could probably do the job well. Even Halle Berry might be a good fit.

Or we could save ourselves time and go straight for a British actress, maybe Gemma Arteron.
She was bada*s in Prince of Persia and she's got the body for it.
Or maybe someone like Keeley Hawes. She's even voiced Lara Croft in the video games. :D

:judge: Damn it. I wanted to be in that movie [if I ever reached that status of acting].

:P

What? Halle is like 20 years past Lara's expiry date, someone under 30 needs to play her, or someone that manages to look 20-25-ish which is the age Lady Croft is supposed to be. She'd also look really strange with The Braid. Not to mention her role as Catwoman. :innocent:

Ellen Page might work, she was ok in X-Men and Inception, but she always seems sort of baby-faced and has timid/confused eye expressions. Not exactly the slightly chiseled athletic face/body and fierce kick-a$s look of confidence Lara has.

Evangeline Lilly, Rhona Mitra or Gemma Arterton could be good choices as Lady Croft Imo. Then again, I still think Megan Fox could do it, is not improbable, just needs a bit bulking up, a push up bra and accent coaching et voila! :woot: Or Kate Beckinsale?
Ok, Rhona might be bit over the age limit, but she's British, is fierce (as Sonja in Underworld, anyone?), physically capable do do lot of the stunts and has been the visual reference "Lara" for video games. I think she's on some lists as top contenders to replace Angelina Jolie as well.

I'm still really rather in love with Angie as Lara but I'd prefer Gemma or Kate Beckinsale. Megan Fox is quite simply one of the worst actresses I've seen (and I see alot) everything I've ever seen her in is just painful!

Aww, yes, Angelina should do a third Tomb Raider  , but she's so tiny and frail looking these days (people even complained about Salt), even more so than Megan, it would be cool to see her get back in the role though! Beyond cool! I'd probably get overexcited and jump up and down in the cinema... :buzz::bounce:

I would like to see Nicholas Hoult and Eddie Redmayne play brothers in a war film directed by Clint Eastwood or Alfonso Cuaron.

I also want to see Tim Burton do something non-fantasy like a cop drama or a film similar to Little Children.
Also, when David Yates wraps Potter, it would be nice to see him get back to his State of Play roots and do another Political drama or courtroom drama.

One of the biggest missed opportunities ever, if you ask me, is that nobody decided to remake Gatsby while Brad Pitt was the perfect age. As much as I adore Baz Lurhman I'm really not on board with Leo doing it at all.

Apparently, Martin Scorsese will be adapting Elizabeth Taylor's book about her and Richard Burton.

I would love to see Rachel Weisz or Marion Cotillard play Elizabeth. :D

^I second Marion Cotillard to play Elizabeth. Now that would be an Oscar winning role for sure!

Also I was thinking that Drew Berrymore would be interesting to see in a film from the victorian or elizabethian era's. As far as I can recollect she's never done such a film. I think she needs to take on more serious roles instead of romantic comedies. She showed she can take on more dynamic roles in Whip It and Grey Gardens so she needs to keep it coming!
