Sabato De Sarno - Designer

Oh I actually liked his collections.
Or maybe I just loved the casting at his runway shows. Last seasons that Gucci show had an amazing cast! But the campaigns were kinda dull af.

Yes, don’t forget he brought back Daria from retirement! Oh Daria ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
1 campaign, 1 appearance….
At least Phoebe uses her consistently.

What’s the point of having Daria for jewelry campaign they never pushed. She should have been the star of the main campaign too.

He made wrong choices all along.

To me, gucci is sexy…and they are afraid of that, bc z generation is afraid of sex… but they need to find a new way to be sexy. Is the only way.
Gen z is so weird they are simultaneously oversexualized yet hate sex. God forbid any relationship has more than a one minute age gap or they will immediately say they are being groomed (even if the younger is nearly 30 years old lmao). I find them so hard to talk to in the workplace, they are so desperate for you to say the wrong thing and cancel you. Such a bizarre generation.

Not Daria ? she oozed raw sensuality like we never saw after … for a while I dreamt of skinny dipping in the Chateau Marmount pool with a gold ingot on a necklace
The campaign is too non descript for me to be memorable

Not to derail the discussion, but that’s assuming they actually show up—rather than throwing around buzzwords like “mental health day” as a convenient excuse for skipping work.

As for Gucci, maybe the next show will be stronger. Personally, I liked some of the collections between Alessandro and Sabato. Fall 2023 Menswear and Fall 2023 RTW, in particular, felt like the direction the brand should have taken—evolving rather than making a complete 180 from Alessandro’s era. Those collections struck a balance.

Sabato, however, seems adamant about “staying true to his vision,” but at the end of the day, he’s a designer working for a brand, not an independent artist. If your vision isn’t resonating, doubling down on “they just don’t get me” isn’t the answer. There’s a responsibility to engage an audience, not alienate them.

He said he's happy to leave bc Hedi Slimane is coming.

He has a great attitude I see why they picked him.
lol

he liked that post to make noise he even mentioned it to his team so to make sure people knew he was in on the joke .....that's just desperation not great attitude ......if you had a great attitude you didn't need to run off to the mens room every time between meetings to do a line in order to stay cheap and cheerful on the job.

Lmao why is this so real 😭

I agree about the sexy thing… NO ONE is doing sexy. That’s a huge gap. Gucci could do it perfectly if they hired the right person.

On another note, just CANCEL the f**** monogram. Even if that means loosing sales short term. That GG print is just appealing at this point and will never look luxurious or desirable again.

I think I have said this countless times, but the rock bottom was reached with that hideous Kendall + Bad Bunny campaign flying commercial in bright colored Savoy GG monogram duffles. Everything was wrong, from the product offering being blatant copy of the colormania LV travel collection, to the way they pushed the low key gossip narrative with the Kendall + Benito couple, to the paparazzi like shot being another copy from Bottega, to the campaign image POV: I don't think Kendall has ever flown commercial...at least when Michael Kors was releasing campaigns with glamazon flying, they were taking private jets...
I think Sabato and Zanola thought that if you can afford 2k for a silk basic blouse, you can definitely afford 3k for a private jet ticket.
That and the holiday campaign with Sinner throwing fake snow balls made out of asbestos at Kendall...shrugs

i had said at the show of his latest collection that it seemed like a bittersweet farewell. was he feeling it? i wish him luck because his career is in limbo

I hope SDS goes to Polimoda or similar. We need retired CD's going into Academia.

Unfortunately Fall 2023 RTW was largerly directed by Davide Renne, Alessandro Michele's right-hand man who tragically died right after his appointment at Moschino.
I agree it could have been the right direction.
The creative directions of the stores under Sabato are, actually, much closer to the direction of that collection than Sabato's era.

oh i am sure the payout is well and he accumulated into few small millions now after 2 years salary + premature contract ending he made more in this short period then he would being at valentino in a lifetime ....no pity actually in these terms he is one lucky boy
He already won at the lottery with these two years at Gucci, totally obtained by casual chance (I read somewhere here he was the ninth choice by Gucci). He could retire and dance for the rest of his life.

I sincerely thank Sabato for his loyalty and professionalism. I am proud of the work that has been done to further strengthen Gucci’s fundamentals.
They're just struggling to say anything positive about his tenure lmao
