Sabato De Sarno - Designer

I kind of feel bad for him.
They treated him really bad. He had that great trajectory of a career, working for esteemed maison, being able to live a certain lifestyle, live of his passion. Then he got appointed at a position he wasn’t ready for (I wonder what were the motivations to choose him over someone else), tried to stand on his ground and got fired in the most inelegant way.

Let’s see where he goes next. I think he can totally take over one of the smaller houses from Bally to Pucci even Azzaro (LOL) or Rochas or totally leave fashion. As long as he doesn’t come back with PPP (because I figure out that everything I hated about PPP’s work was from him).

Oh come on Lola! You really hate Pucci ahah! First you proposed Mariagrazia, now him  Pucci for me is sporty jet-set, is color, joy, fun... none of these words belong to them!!!

Ahahah.
No but I think Pucci had the opportunity to be a good fashion brand under Peter Dundas. Unfortunately, Pucci’s daughter was there and it didn’t allowed them to develop it as they were supposed to and then Dundas decided to go back to Cavalli (with the success we know…).

For me, the approach they are doing with Miceli is clever: lifestyle and products oriented.

MGC would actually be perfect for Pucci because she is not doing fashion but she is perfect in terms of products, merchandising. And the brand is small enough to be a good project in terms of creative direction.

And I think that Ancora could be as good at Pucci.
Pucci is really the perfect « from gowns to candles » brand.

If you really think about it, he even got lucky with the timing of his Gucci appointment:
- Ancora appointed as Gucci creative director in January 2023
- Piccioli and his right hand Gabriele Cusimano leaving Valentino in March 2024

Had Ancora not accepted the Gucci offer, he would have left anyway with PPP and Cusimano the next year...with the slight difference he managed to get Gucci creative direction on his resume and the big bucks.
It's kinda surreal how bad his tenure has been in terms of direction / point of view yet he managed to get a career boost and get full advantage of Gucci / Kering management, honestly I admire it so much LOL

Don’t jump to quick to admire it lol.
I think his next move will indicate if it was worth it or not. From a monetary stand point yes but as we saw it with Stefano, sometimes, it’s difficult to bounce back.

What will be also interesting to see is if he got ego or not. You see there are a lot of designers (mostly from Paris or who have worked in Paris) who have had the chance to be creative director but once everything ended, weren’t locked on their ego in order to go work somewhere else as a number 2.

We can say whatever we want about Bruno from Lanvin but post Alber, he is the one who gave another moment to the brand. It ended, he went to work for Phoebe. I remember the duo of designers who took over Iceberg. It ended, they went to work for Vaccarello. Natacha Ramsey the same, post Chloé, she went back to Nicolas while working on side projects.

Because what I think it’s worse about Ancora in this case was that under him, the sales were actually worse. It wasn’t good but -20% means that the product is not resonating with customers.

Don't feel bad!!!!

He enjoyed every moment of it with his nose including and his ever so optimistic view on his capabilities and non vision, got richer and would never be ready for a big job because many are good enough in a team but not to lead one.

He milked every power he had at the company like a kid in a candy store instead of sharpening his pen he was busy being the new sun king

He was already not liked for his work at Valentino where the worst pre collections , confirmed by inhouse teams.

pls pitty talented hardworking designers that don't even get his chance simply because suits are to basic to understand what talent today is or are not the right race or gender for the ceo !!!

as he fired Alessandro loyalist (5 i believe) all now at Valentino he would have been fired if he was still at Valentino post PPP

so yes he was very lucky with this expressive contract determination curtesy from Marco Bizzarri another lucky genius of the bunch.
