His clothes were not that bad tbh. He is terrible at image building, marketing, PR, etc etc, but the actual clothes? Quite decent to be honest. The runway pieces were of a high quality, you cannot argue that.

Sabato is perfect for a brand like Ferragamo where the stakes are low and there is not as much financial pressure.

Also the funny thing is, even though he technically “failed” at Gucci, the sales were what, still triple that of Balenciaga under Demna? LOL. In that way, technically, he was more “successful”.

Which makes me think, maybe they should have stuck it out with him and instead fired all those people who ruined his vision through stupid marketing decisions, advertising campaigns, etc etc.

its not how it works ....main collections are merch and designed by separate teams not directly followed by him most big sellers where AM gucci items done in new colors or tweaked .....show collection made up small percentage of total sales less than 10 %

no it bag or shoe came out of his efforts/no new classics !!!! this was really what sank his possibility to stay longer with mounting pressure
tomorrow LV without NG will still do big numbers as well because the scale of the company is big same as Chanel post VV they still make billions on auto pilot.

If I may add to your conversation guys I also think in terms of content and merchandising presentation via e-commerce it was very poor during Sabatos tenure.. maybe j am reading too much into it as a customer but the way they paired items was horrible! No wonder people weren’t buying anything! Whether it was a show product or not for me anyway! Also they changed the menu after AM and it was so hard to navigate.. I mean yeah I know it wasn’t ancora deciding on this but still all the changes that occurred during his tenure were not in his favor

Even in 2018 it was more exciting and vibrant but then again I was a hardcore gucci ecom customer back then and under AM it was a different situation altogether. I think we all change in terms of preferences and fashion changes too and that’s great but there’s a thin line between something that had effort put in it and then there’s blatant disregard and pseudo simplicity and chic, and unfortunately Gucci is falling into the latter category as of late!

We all love a tank / tshirt and a nice pair of jeans but when it’s the first two rows on Gucci.com this is not repositioning but just laziness and bad Management IMO of course!

I agree, FW24 Men's, FW25 Women's and SS25 Women's were pleasing in means of a sartorial proposition, but the overall vision was severely lacking.

i cant help but feel that if Sabato had a chance to hone his vision in 2/3 more brands before getting Gucci he might have succeeded in Gucci but who knows

He was not a good choice for Gucci.
We expected more for such a house.

At the same time, his exit was nasty and harmed more than did good to Gucci.
Nobody believes the Demna movement was a well-thought plan and now the pressure is extreme.

The Sabato era was an average product + bad marketing + superbad management.
Not a recipe for success, if you ask me.

I said it before but when the Ancora show happened I thought that it would look good in the sales bin/staff sale. Not to slander but I really wanted some of the pieces but I knew it would be useless to get them at retail. He just wouldn’t work at Gucci.

Gucci always needed to sell dreams, it won’t work as something practical but luxe. It cannot be Hermes. Now we’ll see if Demna can strike twice and sell a world.
