Every portrait that is painted with feeling is a portrait of the artist, not of the sitter.” Oscar Wilde
Photographer Andrea Vecchiato is doing a charity event titled THE SITTER, NOT THE ARTIST. It’s a collection of 30 original nude portraits of various actors, musicians and artists like Dominic Cooper (Mamma Mia, Tamara Drew), Tom Hardy (Inception) , Lee Ryan (boyband Blue), and Rupert Evans (Hellboy), amidst others. Profits from the sales of the original prints will go to the National Autistic Society.
Here we have two outtakes of his portraits of model Sam Webb. “I wanted to stay away from models and only shoot artists, but since he volunteered (or better David Gandy volunteered him) and brought along his pals Jake Davies, Oliver Chesire, and Josh Parkinson, I could not refuse their contribution to the cause, and I am very grateful.” – Andrea

Sam Webb began his love affair with Dolce & Gabbana nearly five years ago, bringing an inspiring image to the designers’ vision of a strong masculinity that blends sex, style and romance into a timeless package. Appearing in countless runway shows, campaigns and lookbooks for the label, Sam has become part of the Dolce & Gabbana family, joining the ranks of David Gandy, Adam Senn and Noah Mills for a recognizable brotherhood.

When thinking of Dolce & Gabbana, it’s like you’re part of the family…how did that start?
Sam Webb: I would like to think I am! I mean I have been working for them for five years! It was my first runway and first campaign! Domenico and Stefano are great! The whole crew is amazing swell! When we do the campaign it’s like a reunion as everyone knows each other! With the models David (Gandy), Adam (Senn) and Noah (Mills), I feel like they are almost like my big brothers.

How has the experience been?
Sam Webb: It has been amazing for me! It has opened my eyes to new things, people and experiences that before I had no comprehension of! I feel like I am riding a wave and enjoying the view! Going with the flow! Fingers crossed, the ride will carry on!

What is it like on the runway?
Sam Webb: I really enjoy doing runways as it is the closest thing to sport and the competition I was used to in the boxing ring! The adrenaline and the chaos before you go out!

Share a joke…
Sam Webb: What do you call David Gandy in a sweet shop? David Candy
What do you call David Gandy in a pub? David Shandy
I could go on!!!

Sam Webb kicked off his career with a humorous bout of jealousy and the rest is history. From Birmingham to a home with London premier agency Select, Sam had some doubts about this mysterious field called modeling, but with a great set of genes and an endless charisma, the path to success came easy.

Where did you grow up?
Sam Webb: In sunny Birmingham in England!

How were you discovered?
Sam Webb: Discovered in Birmingham in my hometown when Dounia my now agent stopped me with my girlfriend! My ex thought she was hitting on me! I had never been to London or even knew that men modeled! Ha!

When did you start modeling?
Sam Webb: When Select invited me to London! Didn’t want to do it! But then I thought I’ll give it a try and see London!

What were you doing before modeling?
Sam Webb: I was at university and working part-time on a building site, digging holes! But I was training to be a boxer like my dad!

What was your first major gig?
Sam Webb: I suppose it was the ss06 Dolce show! I had never done runway before! I was super embarrassed!
