British Fashion Council Ambassador Samantha Cameron officially opens London Fashion Week Autumn/Winter 2011 at Somerset House on February 18, 2011 in London, England.

The Prime Minister's wife was British from head-to-toe as she opened the London Fashion Week season for autumn/winter 2011, at Somerset House this morning.

Samantha Cameron was in fashion-black, in a dress by Mulberry, a jacket by Sykes, and high heels by LK Bennett, with black tights.

Samantha Cameron: new ambassador for London Fashion Week

"I'm passionate about fashion, I love it, but it's not just about how it makes people feel about themselves, it's because of what it can do for our country."

She said fashion was "one of the most important industries, full stop", pointing out that it made billions for the economy and employed hundreds of thousands of people.

Speaking about her role as an ambassador for the British Fashion Council - announced in August last year - she said she was determined to do everything she could.

"We've got the talent and the expertise to take UK fashion even further."

Tonight, Mrs Cameron will host her first fashion reception at Number Ten Downing Street, for a host of industry movers and shakers, leading designers and the world's fashion press. Anna Wintour , the editor in chief of American Vogue, Emmanuelle Alt , the new editor in chief of French Vogue are among the guests expected.

All eyes will be on Mrs Cameron's choice of dress for the event. She is known to favourites both British high street labels, as well as leading London based designers such as Erdem and Osman Yousefzada. Tonight she has the entire London Fashion Week line up to choose from.

So disappointed in this outfit. I mean the dress is cute, but she looks like a business woman and the jacket/dress/thights don't seem like the same black.
Sarah Brown wore Erdem last year for this, I think she looked better.
