Thank goodness there is a thread for scarves! Thanks sooooo much for starting the thread! I'm surprised no one eise posted to it yet...
I never go out without a scarf - it is the simplest method of accessorizing any look, and it's a heck of a lot lighter than carrying a huge bag.
Whenever I go to a museum, gallery or shop that carries scarves, I pick up a new one to add to my collection. Every time I wear the scarf, it reminds me of the pleasant time I had when I bought it. My mother gave me half of her scarf collection, mostly Hermes, Gucci, Pucci and the like, and they smell like her when I unfold them. It's very special.
There are so many ways to use scarves in original ways! I often wear one color in clothes, stockings and shoes, and top it all off with a scarf of color and pattern.
A practical thing about scarves is being able to wear one when I'm chilled, and fold it away in a pocket when I warm up.
They also make splendid gifts for both men and women! The ones I get at museums rarely cost more than USD$25 for neckerchiefs (which I prefer).
I'll dig around online for some of my favorites and post them shortly.
