most nigerians i know think oluchi is hideous---- and she isn't very attractive next to the typical nigerian face. the only option i saw was jessica white. she has a great face and body, but she is illsuited for the athletic line. selita looks athletic.

Most Nigerians do not think Oluchi is hideous. How do I know this?? Because I am Nigerian, and I was there when she was crowned face of Africa. There was a lot of buzz about her and people looked up to her. Notwithstanding, some people didn't appreciate the fact that she was dark skinned and african features(slavery mentalityrefer lighter skin,narrower nose etc) However, thanks to her rise(and that of Agbani), Currently in Nigeria, lots of people are becoming increasingly more appreciative of darker skinned girls, in fact the most famous Actress in our country(Genevieve Nnaji) is darkskinned, and she herself said that tide just recently changed. I grew up in Nigeria, and the truth is Oluchi is definitely a stand out.

However, I can see brenylnn's "athletic angle". Selita certainly looks athletic, but like I said her potential as an ubermodel is limited.

i don't think it is due ot her complexion. there are many beautiful west african women who don't look as andrgynous in the face(which is bad for a vs model,)
also being crowned in a major pageant doesns't mean the general populus thinks she is pretty at all---- infact many were annoyed about it and frankly i can see why. most of my nigerian girlfriends are much more attractive in the way selita is.
genevieve face pasted onto oluchi's body would make a great vs girl..as well as jamelia the pop star. they are both more conventionally pretty.

^by coventional u mean more western features e.g. narrower nose instead of broad. A lot of black celebritys in hollywood change thier nose to be more conventionl e.g. vivica, brandy, MJ ...
I was in highschool when Agbani was chosen to rep. our country in the beauty pagent. The sad reality is that people were annoyed b'cos she was darkskinned.People in my school, and the media said a lot of derrogatory things. People aren't politically correct back home. B4 you would be hardbent to find one darksinned girl represent a beauty pdt, billboard... now its normal. You used to have billboard advertising bleaching cream, and calling it "skinbeautifying cream" showing a b4 pix blackskin & after fairskin of the SAME GIRL. I went home last christmas, and thats not common anymore. And i am talking about a west-african country?!!??Where the average person is dark and ofcourse has african features? Look we can keep on hiding behind the word "conventional" Or fess up to the fact that is sth more than that. The bottom line is OLUCHI smokes SELITA as a model.

i understand we have different opinioons, but to me, oluchi has very deepset eyes, strong jaw, and chiseled cheeks for a woman. i also think her shoulders are really broad---much broader than her hips. so when i see her i don't think lingerie---and i understand ur frustration---but alek wek's face is much more regular pretty girl than oluch. both ar dark and obviously african-. i will digress, but i want you to understand i am not saying this out of some unfair preference.
