A Moment With
Model Shalom Harlow, at Linda Loudermilk’s runway show
Sunday, February 04, 2007
(NEW YORK) Tell us about your eco-friendly fash-inspiration.
I’ve worn a lot of vintage clothes my whole life, partly because I love the old styles, but also because it’s recycling, in a sense. Until the past year, there wasn’t a lot of organic and sustainable clothing available. What
Linda [
Loudermilk] does is so exciting—she’s at the forefront of the eco-chic movement.
What other shows are you headed to this season?
I’m going to Edun because they’re also doing socially responsible clothing.
What got you involved in helping Mother Earth?
My parents made me very aware of the natural symbiotic relationship between us and the planet. I want to do as much in my life as possible to be conscious of my impact on the planet.
How was the runway at Dior couture?
Oh, my God! What a fantasy!
John [
Galliano]’s a master at creating the most exquisite designs and atmosphere. It was like stepping into a fairy tale…or an opera, like
Madame Butterfly! And it was incredible to be perched on that massive Dior chair. The view I had was pretty amazing—I saw John do his tour in a buccaneer’s outfit and weave his way through all of his extraordinary pieces while paper butterflies fell from the sky.
Are you returning to the catwalk full force?
If it makes sense. For the right things, I’m still walking.
Are you in love?
Yes. With myself!
