Shay Mitchell Covers Seventeen Prom 2012

Brightening up this year's high school must-have issue, Shay Mitchell covers the 2012 installment of Seventeen Prom magazine.

The "Pretty Little Liars" cutie posed for the front page shot in a sunny yellow frock while talking with the publication about all things prom related.

On picking the perfect dress:
“For my prom I really wanted to wear a bright color — something that was going to pop and stand out. [You have to think about] how you are going to shine in your photo and how you’re going to look different."

On going solo:
"I was dating my first boyfriend in high school for a long time, and we broke up before prom. I hadn't met anyone else that I really wanted to go with, and my friends have always been amazing. So I went with my friends and got a million photos with them!"

On creating style on a budget:
"My dress was about $175, and for accessories I went through my mom's closet. The earrings, bracelet and rings I wore were all hers. I bought nice, crystal shoes — you have to get something that makes you really excited. It doesn't have to be expensive, but I really did feel like a princess putting my shoes on!"

On too-tight curls as her hair disaster:
"I washed it again and we had to redo it with a curling iron. And I had to redo my makeup because of the tears! I was like, 'I should have gotten it done professionally!' — but my mom came through."

On whether she asks guys out:
"In high school, I knew the guys, so I would have asked. Now I'm the shy girl! I see a cute guy in Starbucks and I'm like...Oh..Okay, and I walk out. But who knows? Maybe I will ask somebody on a date soon!"
