Sigrid Agren : A digital of a digital of a video and still her beauty beams through
Fashion Week is very much here. I'm trying to put away all my Spur bookings before going full velocity into show week. This morning I logged that much needed Q+A with Sigrid Agren at New York Models. If Ms Agren was gorgeous and fresh and coveted before well I have to say she looks even better now. Looking through the lens of the video screen on my Canon I was just speechless as to how clean, clear, fresh and lush her beauty felt. The softness of her eyes, the lushness of her lips, the flawless skin , the fall of the hair, the lithe body that still read as healthy and athletic.... It is insane how much of an ideal this girl has become. Flashes of Uma Thurman to the young Bridget Hall rippled through my mind as I watched her face. Even better, Sigrid is so much more comfortable now with the process and the demands and the mania of the industry. Watching her posing for Kiku, (our photographer) was like watching a swan gliding through water. Graceful and soft but sure.
After that early morning interview I grabbed breakfast at the corner of Spring and Lafayette. The most curious thing happened. Within a half hour span I saw fleets of models running back and forth between castings and agency. There was Isa looking very London in trainers and tights and a massive army coat. Sharan from IMG was scurring across the street in these enviable leather tights, rocking the best 80's Josie Borain haircut ever. Georgina from Women also crossed my sightlines looking really really sculptural and quite expensive. It was like you could can just stand on that corner and do your casting. (Hint to all dedicated modelwatchers) In between all these criss-crossing models (it must have been about 12) with hair flying, moving very very fast on stilt-like legs it became abundantly clear that NYC was glutted with even more good models than the season before. But already I'm feeling that "good" won't be good enough in a season of cut backs. The hiss buzzing around today was that certain designers were cutting down on their amount of looks shown. Edit, edit, edit is the big prerogative of those directional showrooms. Many are being called but only the Sigrids survive.
