I wasn't blown away by it either. The plot seems very simplistic from what we can see, and the movie looks like an addition of nice pictures lacking depth.
I can't help but think it's a little autobiographic (the little girl following her movie star dad around nice hotels and award shows).
coppola is best when she works with her own stories, her own words. i think this is going to be just as wonderful as lost in translation was, and far more pared back than marie antoinette. i can't wait to see it.
I like it. I don't see it as being any different than what Lost in Translation looked like, as Peachescream puts it, pared down. Considering what I already know about the movie, I would expect a simple trailer.
This kind of looks like a paedophilic and incestuous version of Lost in Translation. And I'm going to out on a limb here and say that this wasn't their intention?

Wow - That's his daughter, I didn't get any "sexual" vibes between the 2 characters at all from that trailer. It seemed like he had an empty life until forced to reconnect with something that matters - a child. Given that Coppola not long ago had her own first child, she must understand how children bring unparalleled devotion and meaning into a person's life. And surely she's drawing on that here?
I don't know her intentions, obviously, but that trailer seemed pure and as someone else mentioned, another brilliant illustration of music use. She's shoots films with a photographer's eye but the subtleties in her films are what I appreciate. She captures feelings so well. And also gives time to mundane moments, like playing rock band with your kid.
the trailer looks beautiful of course, but I am afraid of it being a clone of Lost In Translation. Which might be fine so long as the 2 actors have a powerful presence and make us care about them.
Somewhere does look exactly like Lost in Translation, just with father-daughter relationship instead..but I kind of like quiet movies too, so hopefully there will be at least something of a plot..
