Solange shines and becomes promisse of the new Gisele
At 16 years-old, brazilian model Solange Wilvert made a new way into fame: without even stepping on a brazilian catwalk, went straight to NY to be a cover girl and showing for brands like Gucci and Calvin Klein, besides being chosen by Chanel to protagonize the high point of the show, wearing a wedding gown. "That was hard. The dress was really heavy and the heel was very high", says the young catarinense, that today splits her time between her parents house and fashion's international market.
Solange was "discovered" last year by a scout who found her at the public school she attended, in Florianópolis (SC). "I've never thought they would pick me out to be a model, everyone said I was too thin. Still I loved the idea. When I was little, I trained catwalking in the hallway." records.
The top has 1,80m, wights 53kg and eats "everything". "I only look out for colesterol, no fries. And I don't live without chocolate, rice, beans and pasta." Before becoming a model, Solange never worked. "I went to school and lived with my father, a contractor and my mother, who is a housekeeper and a agriculturist."
When she landed in NY for the first time, Solange went with her father and barely spoke english. Less than a year later, she makes it around town and tells she loves to walk around Central Park. The american city was one of the first places she knew outside her hometown.
"I didn't know São Paulo or Rio, nothing. Undoubtly, the best thing about modeling is getting the chance to know places I never imagined possible." And the hardest ? "Small shoes, walking in very long dresses, feeling your hair being pulled back and changing make up more than 5 times a day."
The work routine is heavy, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and in haute couture seasons, the beauty almost don't sleep. Very single, when she steps on brazilian soil, Solange says she goes straight to her parents. Acording to her, the goal is now helping the family. "The money I make I invest in houses to rent" says the model that, for now, gave up her studies which she will try to "get back later". In the everyday life, Solange is really simple and likes to wear jeans and shirts "all basic" with "a little make-up".
She agrees with her assemblance to the british Kate Moss, that exploded in the early 90s. "People say we have similar mouth and eyes" she says "We've met once, but never talked."
If she wasn't a model, Solange thinks she would be a housekeeper, like her mom, or maybe a manicurist, activity she loves. Like every girl her age, she likes stuffed bears and listening to music. "When I'm out, I just don't listen to country so I don't cry homesick". On TV, she enjoys soap operas and doesn't loose one Globo's "Fama".
Solange laughs when questioned about being the next Gisele Bündchen: "If I fight and make throught all this madness, who knows?".
