Big sis Sophie is walking tall
February 15, 2006
THE sister of Australia's hottest modelling export, Gemma Ward, has arrived in Sydney - and she's aiming high.
Which shouldn't be a problem for Sophie Ward, given that she stands 185cm in flats - towering over 18-year-old Gemma by 5cm.
What's more, Sophie's bold enough to stake a claim to modelling success in her own right, despite her sister's global domination of the fashion scene last year.
"I don't feel like I'm following in her footsteps at all," Sophie told fashion writer Alicia Pyke yesterday.
"I feel like I've done my own thing and we're such different people."
Sophie, 20, has just swapped Perth for Sydney and the modelling agency she shares with her superstar sister - Vivien's - has been flooded with bookings.
"She's only been here for three weeks, but Sophie is very heavily booked already," a spokeswoman from Vivien's said yesterday. "After Australian Fashion Week we're anticipating she'll go international."
On Monday night Sophie, an arts graduate, appeared for designer Charlie Brown at an intimate cocktail party hosted by Myer, and tonight she'll hit the runway for David Jones.
She'll join Megan Gale and the department store's youth ambassadors Abbey Lee and Samantha Harris, on the catwalk to showcase some of Australia's top designer talent at an opulent, oriental-themed production at Sydney Town Hall.
