these bring back horrible memories of hauling wood into the house in 10 degree weather during a Northern Michigan winter. no thanks. god speed to those that try them out as a fashion item. i'll pass though ;)
 
After the snow storm we had, I'm considering getting these. Don't want to spend the next 3 months with freezing toes and ruining my "proper" shoes.

I don't know if it's the right thread but I'd like to have some feedback on them. Thanks in advance!

That's exactly why I got them. No practical shoes for winter weather and normal or cute shoes are ridiculous if you're ruining them and your feet are freezing and slipping on ice.

I just started wearing mine for the first time last week since we are having snow and single digit temps now. THey are sooooo cozy and the tread is good and tough. THey are a little big and clunky, but not too heavy. I have caribous.

Oh, and the weird thing is some people have commented that they think they're cute. go figure.:lol:
 
We have just had two weeks of weather from hell......and my Sorel boots have been a godsend. They really don't look chic.....but they are so unbelievably warm, dry and just, totally appropriate.

Got a pair yesterday!

No need to go to Colette either, the outdoor specialist "Au Vieux Camper" sells the brand in Paris at a very decent price and not 1000 € (for the Colette - Sorel galuchat version...) !!! :shock::doh:

As Pinksatin mentioned I actually got compliments on the boots. Didn't expect it honestly! :lol:

Why would anyone who lives in PARIS get these?!
Seriously! These boots serve one purpose: walking in snow under extreme temperatures (read: Canada, some parts of USA, Russia etc..).
I bet you will think they are hideous in a few years once they go out of style.

Just sayin...

Boluda: I don't get that harsh reaction.

You have the right to not like the boots and say it, even to say they're not appropriate for the Paris snow (though I don't live in Paris and disagree with your statement...) I respect that.

Bu assuming you know better about my tastes and the reasons why I got them is annoying and rude.
 
Yes, because snow and sub-zero temperatures only happen in Canada and Russia. I mean WTF? Today we got 10 cm of snow on top of the snow from the past 4 weeks and it's -10 degrees CELSIUS at night. North-Western Europe is buried in snow atm. I'd kill for a pair.
 
The thing I don't get, though, is why ppl living in California would wear these boots, or UGGS for that matter. Makes no sense. If I was blessed enough to live in a place where it never snows I'd wear pretty feminine shoes all year round...but I live in Scandi, and our winters suck.

about California people wearing UGGs...well, actually some parts of CA(oceanside, moutain area, northern part), can be very very cold...early morning, late night.... :flower: Besides there are many ski areas in that state.
 
During the school year, I live a few miles from Lake Ontario so we get all that lovely lake-effect snow, and I would kill for a pair of these!

I have to laugh about the people who complain about Uggs and Sorel Boots and things like that. Yes, they're not very cool--they're warm and that's why they're needed!

Also, even in warm areas the smallest little cold front can throw us off (I'm originally from Miami) so I can see how some would consider them.:rolleyes:

I don't mind them at all. I'm used to inappropriate shoe choices. (Like some really great boots in 88 degree weather :blink:)
 
These are the Sorels I was gifted this Christmas. I absolutely adore them because they are fun but still functional. I love pretty winter clothes but some pieces are just not suited to walking to work in way-below-freezing temperatures on a daily basis. I realize some people think of very "functional" winter gear as a fashion faux pas but to be honest, I would feel like more of a fashion victim if I decided to forgo comfort for style.

we just had a blizzard of snow here and my mother is pressuring me to get sorels. not interested. i think they are too clunky and i wont feel agile enough in them. if shoes are too clunky i find that they slow me down and make me more tired.

i dont think the sorel "trend" will catch on.
 
it does snow in california, just not in places like l.a., san francisco, or san diego...
if you live in/near lake tahoe or yosemite, it definitely snows...

i don't see sorels as being a trend...they're functional...
i had a pair when i lived on the east coast 10 years ago, mainly because in all the snow/rain they keep your feet warm, your ankles are protected from sprains, and the treads on the bottom keep you from slipping on the ice (unlike l.l. bean duck boots)...
i think the reason they have gotten "trendy" is because companies like urban outfitters and j.crew are styling with them in their catalogs, but east coasters (and others that live in colder climates) know they are a functional necessity...

the style Aby posted is what everyone is wearing here in Toronto.

in a snowy winter city they're great, and relatively fashionable and functional and work great with skinny jeans or leggings and a warm parka coat.

but they look foolish if you're not wearing them under the proper conditions I think
 
Sorel is trying to update their boots-- I saw a pair with the black bottoms and patent leather uppers that weren't too bad... no fur. I prefer my black Bogs for the knee deep show. Deep snow and salt ruins nice boots...
