The 26-year-old actress, model and muse Stacy Martin is perhaps best known for her breakout role in Lars von Trier's Nymphomaniac as well as fronting Miu Miu's fashion campaigns. The French-English actress was also chosen as the face of the Italian brand's debut fragrance offering, and she's back once again for their second scent, L'Eau Bleue.
We caught up with the actress to talk all things fashion, film and fragrance.
On her skincare routine...
"It's super simple because I can tend to be lazy and short of time. I love Kiehl's Calendula Deep Cleansing Foaming Face Wash, £22, and the Ultra Facial Oil-Free Gel-Cream, £45. In the evening, I use the brand's Midnight Recovery Oil, £38, which is amazing. I used to apply too much when I started using it though and wondered why I was breaking out. You only need two drops for it to do wonders to your skin."
On her approach to make-up...
"I don't wear much make-up or really know how to do it. I'm not good at eyeliner or doing a 'shadow' eye... I don't even know what it is actually called! Normally, I only put on a little foundation and I think that's because I wear make-up for work so much. I am a big fan of mascara though. I love Urban Decay's Perversion Mascara, £19, because it is so thick and black."
On her top piece of beauty advice...
"I swear by eye masks like those from Estée Lauder, £36. When shooting I'd often find my eyes were really puffy so I'd wear Collagena Hydrogel Masks on the way to work. I must have looked like a mad woman but using them works."
On wellbeing...
"I avoid tea and especially coffee as it tends to give me anxiety. A fellow actress told me about how good hot water is for you but I couldn't just boil the kettle and drink it like her. Instead, I add lemon and honey. You should definitely try it."
On wearing perfume...
"I wear perfume a lot but I don't really think about it. It is kind of subconsciously the finishing part of my beauty routine. It might be cold with lots of pollution at the moment but at least I smell okay."
On the evocative power of perfume...
"Experiencing a perfume is such an immediate experience. You can be walking down the street and smelling a scent can bring back memories of a person that you were with in the past. You can also smell someone new and that in itself can make you turned on on some level. The process isn't intellectual."
On Miu Miu L'Eau Bleue...
"L'Eau Bleue is sweeter and fresher than the original Miu Miu fragrance, with the Lily of the Valley notes really coming through. It actually reminds me of birthdays in the first days of spring, bringing back memories of friends and fun – this atmosphere of bringing people together. There are notes of sweet honeysuckle and akigalawood too."
On working with Steven Meisel...
"He is so creative and imaginative, immediately seeming to know the person in front of the camera so you get an amazing shot and have a great time. There was a feeling of pressure to get it right but Steven made it easily and organically come together. It was a joyful experience."
On her personal style...
"I'm very low key. I dress up and wear beautiful things for work so I don't think about it when I'm not [working]. I like jeans, jumpers and coats – anything that is cosy. Oh and the Russell & Bromley boots I got on Ebay. I haven't found something quite like them since and I've repaired them so many times as I can't bear to let them go."
On politics...
"These particularly desperate times make you question whether you can still live as normal. In this profession it can be difficult. It is hard to find a balance where you feel comfortable and proud of what you do as an actress alongside a compulsion to be more engaged."
On how she spends her downtime...
"I actually have to make it feel like I'm working otherwise I feel so uninspired. I tend to like reading and I'm learning to play the piano and to sing."
On what's next...
"I'm so busy! I'm really excited about starring in The Bell Jar directed by Kirsten Dunst. I love that it is Kirsten's interpretation and it works so well. The Bell Jar was actually the last work by Sylvia Plath that I read. It took me a while to find my way into it."
And finally, on who the Oscar goes to...
Either Manchester by the Sea or Moonlight... can they win everything please?
