I was just having a conversation with my brother at the dinner table and he mentioned to me that when he first started college about three years ago, not one person would carry their coffee around as they were walking to class or frolicking around. Now that I am in college three years later, EVERYONE does it! This phenomenon has probably been sparked from the Olsen Twins and just about every other celebrity who is seen photographed on the streets of L.A with their iced coffee these days...so it is enough to call it an accessory?

Thats funny you brought that up because the other day I was shopping and carrying a coffee and I realized that carrying coffee had become like an accessory. I feel unaccessorized without it...like I'm missing a purse or handbag. Its so weird but true...

good idea!!it's true.
Starbucks coffee is an accessory

I guess it can be true for some people...
I'm not sure if I"m carrying my coffee/tea as an accessory w/o realizing it:blink: but I'm usually seen carrying a coffee because I"m heading to my 3 hour lectures:p

Omg you're right and the first to mention it...

I don't drink coffee but I have my starbucks green tea every morning and I feel lost without that cup in my hand...

am i the only one who prefers coffee bean to starbucks (for cold drinks) and vice versa for hot drinks?

no kidding.
i am a customer of starbucks, no lines:p

BUT, i deteste take-out cups or mugs, i don't jsut preach..i don't do! furthermore, i find it uncomfortble to carry the thing outside. i always stay in, and ask for a porcelain cup. i think without even realizing it, the sit-in customers get the coffee for the cup:ninja:

I just don't understand the mentality of today's society. This is the exact reason why I cannot stand sitting at Starbucks and hearing those posers at the next table pretending to be having an intellectual conversation. Drinking a latte has become a big theatrical play. People don't drink out of the enjoyment of the bevarage rather as a social stance to project maturity and a college/university student like appearance.

Ah this subject is quite amusing. On certain ocassions I have even over heard customers put on a fake accent to order a drink. Like honestly can't you just say the name of the drink in your own tone of voice rather than some english twit ordering a latte. Another issue that bothers me on this whole discussion is the way people carry their cups. If you take a closer look it is even funnier. Especially the little tennie girls who on a warm day hold the cup in a cuddle to project they are cold, like for God sakes shove the drink down your throat this isn't some movie production you are in.

Haha sorry I come off abit harsh but it's because of people making Starbucks some fashion wh*re house, that I can't even sit down and enjoy a drink on my spare time.

Apparantley everyone now days has become a messy Olsen Twin. Sad.

Excuse me?

And Starbucks, an accessory? It's just a cup of coffee to me really.

it is definitely true around here...

i was noticing this over the weekend...
and thinking it myself...

*so am i the only one who can't seem to manage to walk down the street without spilling the coffee all over the place...usually on myself...???

my friend and i were discussing this over the weekend as well...
and she said she is just like me...

so how do these people do it and why...
it's so clumsy and awkward to me...
i want my hands free so i can do what i need to do...

...

Its making me want a single shot caramel latte with a skinny lemon poppy seed muffin, if nothing else ;)

I have one every day, (not the muffin, thats a weekly treat!!). If I am not near a coffee shop once a day, I definately feel slightly twitchy ;)

I didn't mean that in an offensive manner, I just notice alot of people putting on a fake english accent when purchasing a drink, that's all. Sorry if you took it offensively.

This is too hilarious.

I agree that there are now a lot of Olsen-wannabees who have adopted a Starbucks cup as an accessory. But this is perhaps putting the cart before the horse, as there were a lot of people walking around with Starbucks cups before the Olsens entered high school.

For that matter, there is a Coffee Underground ;) that has been walking around carrying cups of hot coffee (without spilling it, usually) for many years before Starbucks existed. Some of us even skateboarded to our college classes carrying our coffee (usually without spilling.)

Uphill in both directions. In the snow.

;)

Starbucks is alot like a designer purse if you think about it....

a designer purse says " i paid too much for my bag"
a Starbucks cup says " i paid too much for my coffee"

I'm glad I'm not the only one that noticed this. It sickens me when I see people acting this way. But that's why I don't go to starbucks.. well that and because their coffee sucks! The only thing I can drink at starbucks without getting sick are the teas. Everything else (even the hot chocolate) has a BAD chemical/fake taste that makes me sick. There's a place near my house that has fresh roasted coffee beans, and it's SO good.

Chemical taste! That's it.:flower:
I couldn't figure out what bothered me about their coffee for the longest time, but it does have a chemical aftertaste to me.

Nice fantasy you're having... I guess you don't see many poor people?

No offense, but you are really not aware of how many people live.
