i am utterly shocked here. after four years with a belgian winner, there is no belgian designer even amongst the nominees this year. would've been nice to see melodie wolf's name or perhaps another nomination for blaak after such stupendous menswear collections the last three seasons. maybe even marjan too.

but i've a hunch, there might be a certain overhyped brit taking the prize this year. just an obvious suspicion otherwise they could completely surprise me here.

btw,the date for the awards take place on the 9 of November with one other ceremony/competition taking place as well:

the annabelle award sponsored by tommy hilfiger which i believe from years past is the award to student nominees and young talents.

marios schwab wins!

a swiss man himself and also a former nominee the year christian wijnants won....he wins a nice 100,000 EUR in prize money.

check http://ashadedviewonfashion.com for more info and coverage and keep watch of the stella fashion night site for updates.

i have to admit i am bit disappointed in the choice albeit liking his work,i just feel the revolutionary bless girls deserved this. especially since, they've been at this for so long and doing their best work in recent years.

2007 Swiss Textile Awards (Marios Schwab won)

from dazed didgital

The six international designers competing for 2007's Swiss Textiles Award were Ann-Sofie Back, Bless (Ines Kaag and Desiree Heiss), Felipe Oliveira Baptista, Ute Ploier, Gareth Pugh and Marios Schwab. Out of all the nominated designers, these six were invited to showcase their collections at the Stella Fashion Night before a panel of judges and an audience.

The original nominations were made by Lele Acquarone, Fashion Contributor, Vogue Italia, Armand Limnander, Senior Editor, New York Times Magazine, Suzy Menkes, Fashion Editor, International Herald Tribune and Yasmin Sewell, buying director for Browns and Browns Focus, to name a few. The final choice was made by an international jury.

With its commitment to upcoming designers, the Swiss Textile Federation strives to spot new talents: previous winners included Raf Simons (2003), Haider Ackermann (2004) and Bruno Pieters (2006). Following in the footsteps of Simons, now designer-in-chief at Jil Sander, the winner of the Swiss Textiles Award 2007, Marios Schwab, has himself recently joined the Hugo Boss team.

Schwab overcome with emotion and seemed scarcely able to grasp his good fortune. The 30 year old son of a Greek mother and an Austrian father, he grew up in Greece and now lives and works in London. After beginning his studies at the Esmod Fashion Design School in Berlin, he graduated in 2003 from the prestigious Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design. He was assistant to Kim Jones, one of the Swiss Textiles Award 2006 finalists, and worked on Kim’s spring/summer collection for 2004 before founding his own label in 2005. Corset-dresses which highlight the feminine silhouette are his trademark. In 2006, Schwab was chosen as the Best New Designer at the British Fashion Awards. His collections are on sale at Browns, Harvey Nichols and Top Shop in London, Maria Luisa, in Paris, and Side by Side in Tokyo.

berlin, this was already posted. definitely merge as there was no image of his acceptance.

merged :lucky: thanks

since it's swiss textiles awards
it must be that they do some innovation in textiles, no?
i heard from a member here that mario shwab is definitely one of those
and develops his own textiles for his collections

it's really terrible there are no pictures of the works
and the reasons they've won, etc.

it really is,gius. i heard from all the past winners and they've all boasted about the quality and the range of their textiles. of course, sweetzerland(in my best swiss german accent  ),is rather well known for crafts in textiles anyway with trachten costume et al. i realise now,why the past four years they've gone the belgian way since of course belgians are generally synonymous with craftsmanship and texture.

it is terrible there are no more images. they usually do have some catwalk shots every year.

hmmm.. i found some pictures at Diane Pernet's blog
(maybe a few are from older years)

What I was told was that Mario Schwab creates textiles which change colour according to your body temperature :p It's so interesting hearing these things
But looking at the pictures, it's mostly unusual combinations of prints that I see; and combinations of different kinds of fabric
Or embellishments
Gareth Pugh cuts strips of leather.. fabric manipulations...
It would be neat to see them making it from scratch though :ermm:

also there's interesting pattern cutting (but this can't be textile design, that's rather clothing design)
