I don't want to sound mean, but will someone please explain the whole deal about her. I don't want to sound redundant, but she wouldn't be where she is today without the help of her "family name".

I think she's totally talentless, she borrows ideas too much from other designers. Her collection does not even have an identity of its own, she's always borrowing other people's ideas, and she's constantly hopping from one train to the other trying to catch on trends as fast as she can.

I don't get why she even gets to have a show of her own. She's a total bore.

And I read she has this weird habit of trying to be super friendly with influential celebs, probably a way to get free publicity.

I think it's ridiculous she's standing where she is today. Is it fair that such talentless people get so much praise?

I don't get it. Someone explain this to me.

Agree. I don't even like The Beatles apart from Double White...

I know what it is....it's people with lots of money who get bored and want to "explore" fashion. But I do like her perfume!

In her defense, she was great at Chloe, and two or three or her earlier collections for her own label....but I haven't liked one of her collections in years, I think the last one I did like was s/s 03.

I think Stella is good, but not great. Her looks at her own label have been alright, I noticed her fall collection is heavily inspired by the Dior S/S HC, so you might be right. At Chloe she blew the lid off and made Chloe a force. Her own label is missing an identity, it has it's own random London vibe but that's it.

I used to think that as well, But I actually kinda liked some of the stuff from her two latest collections. The clothe looks so comfy ^_^

Her stuff is not horrible, but it lacks an identity of its own. Isn't that what any "great" label should at LEAST have!?

I think is true, her lastets collection havent really showed anything new.

And I aree it id a bit-boring. There are so many other collections that deserve to come in the light, this is not one of them IMO.

While I do admire her not using leather in her shoes, they apparently fall apart. :innocent:

Hmm I think that she has improved a bit, not much though... So I guess you'r right.

I don't think she's hit her stride at her own label yet - she revived Chloe, and I have to respect her for that. She did do some pretty fascinating things when she was there. I think all designers do "borrow" from one another at times (as evidenced by a thread I saw here about how one collection from one designer had similar pieces to another designer's prior collection); the bad thing is that she hasn't established her own "style" with her own label yet, so her "borrowing" seems to be worse than it actually is.

Sorry to be mean, but she's just some talentless so-called designer who shot to fame thanks to her connections.

I think Stella suffers from not being able to establish her brands woman. She did well at Chloe because it had a set, definate woman that they're trying to dress, Stella had structure. At her own label it appears that she doesn't have a specific woman that she is designing for, so she is all over the place.

i've only liked one of her collections...the one with the red corseted dress (kate moss was in the ads); the colors were nice. she seems very inconsistent to me; there isn't a "stella mccartney" look, like you find with alexander mcqueen, galliano, marc, prada, etc.

i like her perfume too, happiness! :flower:

We live in a celebrity obsessed society where just about anyone can get 15 minutes of fame and name and connections supercede actual talent. It's unfortunate but that's the way things are. Her legendary surname combined with her A-list celebrity friends are more important to the (fashion) press than the quality of her collections. It's funny that someone who is supposed to be a high-end designer has to rely on a relatively low-end line (that she didn't even design) in order to make a profit.

She just can't escape the name no matter how hard she tries not to associate herself with it. The hype surrounding her comes mainly from what i believe is the british fashion industry. She might not be as established as some of her peers judging from her collections but I have a feeling she is starting to take a different direction. Her fall/winter collection was in my opinion her best for her label.

Yes, exactly! Chloe was so decidedly girly, yet elegant. She rocked the house with that, and Phoebe Phylo continues to carry that torch, but Stella can't just go and make exactly the same clothes under her own brand, but she hasn't seemed to really stick on a kind of look-and-theme for her own line, either.

A lot seem to be less intusiastic with what she is doing under her own label but praise what she did during her time at Chloe.

Do you guys think Chloe lost out by Stellas departure..or is it the same?..after all, as far as I know..it was never Stella alone at Chloe, Phoebe Philo was there with her all along (*hint* maybe it was Phoebe all along that made the label a great success?)

Chloe seems to be going better without Stella, if i remember well, ss05 was a huge hit with U.S. buyers
