Stella McCartney - What's up with all the hype surrounding her?!

By these standards yes, a veggie would be chowing down on it right away.

And why not?

Eating meat cannot be innately wrong, especially when it's pretty much identical to eating a vegetable except different enzymes are involved.

Please no vegetable arguments on a thread about Stella McCartney though.

Curses! I ediited that comment out, thought I caught it it time  Nevermind, yes back to the point.
Stella Mac is someone of great talent that I would personally be very sorry to see the back of should Gucci decide to shelve her. Plus, we Brits need to keep hold of home grown talent :innocent:

I know what it is....it's people with lots of money who get bored and want to "explore" fashion. But I do like her perfume! :)

I second that

^Fourth that! I have the lotion, body scrub and shower gel as well as the perfume. Obsessive, non?

Perfume aside, I DO really like her Adidas line. It's very graceful and wearable. And from what I've seen from her H&M line, they also look very promising.

But I can't say she's really a fashion genius in any way. Her clothes are like a trusty friend, very dependable, predictable and not gonna stab you in the back with some nasty surprise.

As opposed to . . . Yoji, Dries, McQueen, Lang, Branquino, Ann D? Also, what designer isn't for "people with a lot of money?" Let's remember that fashion, especially designer clothing, and at this level, is incredibly classist and elitist, no matter how innovative or intellectual. I don't see this critique as particularly valid; perhaps I don't understand it. Do you mean it is for wealthy people who are bored and want to explore fashion, or that she is a wealthy person who was bored and wanted to explore fashion. If it is the latter, then I understand (and politely disagree) with what you are saying. If it is the former, I would say almost half of designers are for rich people bored with mainstream who want to explore and the others are for rich people who are satisfied with more polished, fashionable, or classic looks. I would love to try the perfume though:p

Such a similar vibe, totally influenced by what Stella began there.

There have been rumors that Phoebe Philo was a bigger contributor to the success of Chloe than anyone, particularly Stella, would ever admit to. That could very well be an explanation for why some of Stella's pieces look like Chloe ones. I have noticed her borrowing from Pheobe in some of her more recent collections.

The fact remains that an animal had its skin removed ot have those boots made. What if a big hunk of meat was put in a deep freeze twenty years ago and defrosted today. Would a vegitarian still be ok to eat it because the animal who died did so twenty years ago?
If you say you won't wear leather, you don't wear leather. End of.

I disagree. Putting something into your body and and putting something on your body are very different things. And technically, if eating the hunk of meat would in no way tie back to the people who slaughtered the animal, the slaugheting of the orginal animal, or lead to the future of slaughtering more animals than ethically it's fine. Not wearing leather for the sheer principle of it does not really solve anything. Not wearing leather because it contributes and supports the killing of animals is different than just not wearing it for an abstract. The fact that an animal died already and then disregarding it is more irresponsible to me than to recycle a garment that has done as much harm as it could have. I am not advocating the wearing of leather for those who have denounced it. Nor am I saying every vegan/vegetarian should go out and buy some vintage leather because they are allowed to. I am merely saying when it comes to the ethics Mcartney prescribes to she is in the right.

I am only trying to defer the argument against her that challenges her integrity as a designer (but not her talent or ability
 )

I think she is totally overrated.. and as lagerfeld said "she is just a t-shirt designer"..

btw, why she does her shows at paris and not al london??

Because once a British designer gets a bit big.....they migrate elsewhere. It's a crying shame I tell you! Matthew Williamson, Temperley have also moved.

while i can't say i'm a fan of stella, she doesnt seem like a nasty person and i actually feel sorry for the way she's ragged on so much.

It is such a crying shame. There are so little British bred designers still showing in London that its been suggested that London doesn't have a fashion week but more of a weekend. It seems London is great at training designers up but just cannot keep them. Also, is Temperly now showing in Paris? i thought she was still in London.

Nope...she's just shown her S/S 06 collection in NYC. LFW is looking glum indeed. :(

That statement was long time ago. He is all praise now of her especially during the recent news of her collaborating with H&M.

I love Stella McCartney I think shes a great designer

I think people give her too much stick for only making it as a fashion designer because of her dad..she did change her last name so as not to be recognised at college :innocent:

Stella McCartney swings to loss on higher costs, focuses on Asia expansion

Higher costs, partly linked to Stella McCartney's buyout of her brand from Kering, helped to wipe out profits at the brand in its latest year, with the accounts that have only just been filed for 2018 showing an operating loss of more than £10 million.

In its previous year, the company had made an operating profit of £9.1 million, and although the Kering transaction hadn't completed at the end of the financial year, it still turned that profit into losses of £10.8 million. The corporate reorganisation costs mounted up, but the large new flagship store on Old Bond Street also added to the company's outgoings. Overall, expenses rose from £29 million in 2017 to £49 million.

Sales were virtually flat during the period – actually they rose by a tiny 0.2% after having risen 2% during 2017 – to reach £42.6 million. Frustratingly the company didn't give any information about what happened in 2019 and given that it’s now in a partnership with LVMH (although McCartney retains control of the business), that information would have been very useful.

In the accounts, the company said that its strategy is to expand its worldwide retail portfolio with new stores and concessions, particularly in Asia. In fact, the company is heavily focused on international sales in general and doesn’t seem to be worried about Brexit.

That makes it something of a rarity in the UK fashion sector, but it's able to feel that confident because at the moment, less than 5% of its global revenue happens in its UK shops. That also means only a small proportion of its sales are dependent on cross-border movement of goods to Britain.

Furthermore, the majority of foreign revenue recorded by the company relates to royalties, which benefit from UK international tax treaties that are unlikely to be affected by Brexit.
