I always thought he was too cool until I found out he was a wife beater which turned me off.

This new DVD came out earlier this year.

Hollywood Collection: Steve McQueen, MAN ON THE EDGE.

Abandoned by his father, he was a reform school kid with nothing going for him and a giant chip on his shoulder. He joined the Marines, but never stayed far from trouble. Then he discovered acting - and the woman who would be with him for most of his meteoric career. He was Steve McQueen, one of Hollywood's highest paid stars - and one of its most difficult, most rebellious and, when he wished, most charming. His story is told with film clips from his greatest performances, including The Magnificent Seven, Love With The Proper Stranger, The Cincinnati Kid, The Reivers, The Great Escape, The Thomas Crown Affair, and Bullitt. Also shown are home movies - and the recollections of those who knew him best, including Steve's first wife, Neile McQueen Toffel and their children, Terri and Chad, fellow actors Chuck Norris, Karl Malden, Don Gordon, as well as directors, producers, agents and the racing buddies who saw it all happen. Narrated by James Coburn.

Damn. I just came in here say how surprised I was that we didn't already have a thread on him and that I was glad to see it. This has sort of dampened that sentiment.

From "Thomas Crown affair" where he had been perfect in this role (and many other too, I forgot the name of the film in which he played a young poker player facing an old one played by Edward .G. Robinson), and Faye Dunaway too....
The musical thema of this movie, by the famous music composer Michel Legrand
Thomas Crown

Just watched the Great Escape and the Thomas Crown Affair - he definitely earned the "king of Cool" nickname. Charming, cocky with rugged all-american good looks! I can't wait to watch more of his films - next up Bullit and The Towering Inferno! :)

Try to find a copy of "The Getaway" too, one of my favorites...;) And Ali McGraw was so damned hot in it- it is no surprise they both wrecked their marriages over it- you can see the dripping passion between them!!B)

^^ I'm so glad that you got to see it and enjoyed it!! And The Thomas Crown Affair is one of my two or three favorite movies of all time!! I love especially, other than Faye Dunaway in it, how the entire story comes together in the last two minutes!!! Just a great movie!! :flower:

Thanks Boomer!!! I'm ordering the Getaway and Papillon off of Amazon! :) Have you watched The Sand Pebbles? I received it for Christmas but haven't had the chance to check it out, just curious about ppl's thoughts? I also finished reading Neile McQueen's memoir about her life with Steve (entitle "My Husband, my friend") - i would highly recommend this book to any McQueen fan or anyone looking for a good read. This book provides amazing insight into his life on and off the screen and i could not tear myself away!
