Steve McQueen

Yes! I read it- I always kind of felt a little sorry for her- she seemed like a nice woman and Steve was a rough guy to love, I'm sure... I saw Sand Pebbles a while ago and it is a very good movie (8 Golden Globe nominations and 8 Oscar nominations, as I recall) but rough at the finish...:( There will never be another Thomas Crown or Bullitt- I guess I was at an age where those characters meant a lot me when I first got to see them...
Also, if you can find a copy, there was a book called "Steve McQueen: Star on Wheels" way back, and even though it was more of a fan paperback talking a lot about his racing, there are some amazing details about him making the movies- a very good read (that you may be able to find dirt cheap on the net) ! :flower:

He's so cool and although not conventionally handsome, there's a certain ruggedness about him that's appealing.

^^Yes like Daniel Craig has today, but i find that way more attractive than obviously pretty boys, lol.

The suit in the first picture is Cardin...no doubt about it!! ^_^

he is my favorite all time actor!! lets revive this thread!

McQueen was great and a Man's Man as an actor. Loved him in the Great Escape, Bullit, and Thomas Crown Affair had many firsts. If you have not listened to the Director's Commentary on TCA it is definitely interesting

^ Yes, it was very interesting how they did not want him for the film- they thought he was too unpolished and macho to play a Boston Blue Blood...Very good job- he was totally convincing! I still love that movie- and I still want his Rolls Royce Coupe and the Town House on Beacon Hill...and Vicky... ;)

^ I don't think Steve gets enough credit for his acting, though he will always be "Hiltz - The Cooler King" to me.

I have to rewatch the commentary tonight, but besides the screen play being written in a ridiculously short period of time, I thought they also mentioned that TCA was one of the first really stylized movies where they spent a ton on fashion or focusing on the clothes etc almost like a main character

I agree...he will always be the cooler king..i love the scene when he is hopping fences with his motorcycle wearing those cool khakis and pullover sweatshirt...soo cool

Great pic. I need to go through my American Motorcyclist, I know they have done several features on Steve and some of those shots are probably less published

^ Thanks- there was nothing not great about the Thomas Crown Affair!! :flower:
I think, other than Sean Connery and Cary Grant, he had the greatest affect on me as a young lad going to the movies...Bullit, Thomas Crown, The Great Escape, even Love with the Proper Stranger and The Getaway- all were classic macho but somehow deep depictions of modern men! He was truly underrated as an actor and for the body of work he did.. He would probably say "What a lot of crap! Let's have a beer"!! B)
