If you've escaped from school or work for a little summer fun, what are your Summer 2005 Must-Reads? Which bestsellers or little-known gems have you discovered? Any that aren't worth the hype?

Now that the rains have finally stopped in Northern Cal, I can lay out on my swing in the backyard and read for fun, no more heavy French lit or political theory here.
I am trying to balance fluffy chicklit, classic literature and biographies. So far: I've read Anna Wintour's biography- not that exciting, but interesting.
Two novels about women growing up during the Iranian revolution.
Wolves in Chic Clothing- nice and fluffy but not exceptionally literary.

I have a lot of books on my shelf to read big gulp of air

The Corporation- Joel Bakan
Shadow of the Wind-Carlos Ruiz Zafon
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince- J. K. Rowling
The Wisdom of Crowds- James Surowiecki
The Master- Colm Tolbin
Candide- Voltaire
Saturday- Ian McEwan
EXTREMELY LOUD AND INCREDIBLY CLOSE -JONATHAN SAFRAN FOER

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince- J. K. Rowling

comes out on my little bros birthday so i might be cheeky and buy it him as one of his bday pressies then rob it lol :P

I still need to finish the last one !! its just so fat i neve got around to it its taken me years to read i pick it up every now and then but im such a slow reader.

I've read The Shadow of the Wind, The Master, and Saturday, all good choices. I also recommend Never Let Me Go, by Kazuo Ishiguro.

I heard that Never let me go isn't all that good, and that you are left with the feeling why don't the kids runaway from that institute thingy.

Monsieur le docteur Ralph, actually...
It was written by Voltaire, and signed Monsieur le docteur Ralph actually.

Not according to Voltaire himself it wasn't...
If you're going to quote me have the courtesy of quoting whole sentences as opposed to clauses that you find easy to respond to.

Not quoting the second part of your post has no bearing on me being right and you being wrong nor is it in anyway 'discourteous'. I was just passing on an interesting fact - no need to get in a tizz about it...

Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince..

And I still haven't read the Davinci Code

I also really wanna read Emma or Sense and Sensability

What'd you think of The Devil Wears Prada?

If you had quoted me in the entirety it would have made your post redundant -

I posted this;

It was written by Voltaire, and signed Monsieur le docteur Ralph actually.

So you see it does have an affect on me being right, and you being superfluous

Apparently it is being made into a film, I guessed I thought it was an alright book it's hardly award winning literature but it is fun if you are interested in fashion. How about you have you read it? And what were your thoughts on it.

No I haven't read it.. I want to though.. seems like a fun light read.. just what I'm in the mood for these days..

ANYTHING by Nicci French!!..

i'm seriously addicted to their books..
SO good..
