So there I was, backstage at the Georges Chakra fashion show at the Palais de Tokyo in Paris, and who do I spot only Ireland’s very own top model, Tabea Weyrauch. Irish telly viewers will remember Tabea as the winner of ‘The Model Scout’ a couple of years ago. Back then she was the timid schoolgirl from Derry who walked away with the top prize of an exclusive contract with IMG Models, but today Tabea is an international model living in Paris and strutting down catwalks all over the world.
I got to have a quick chat with her and was so impressed to hear what she has been up to. She told me that she is now an international model for IMG and has been flying to shows and jobs all over the world, from Tokyo to Milan to Paris. She lives in Paris most of the time now (her Parisian roommate is actually a fellow ‘The Model Scout’ success story, Sarah Taylor) and they have both been kept busy with Paris Couture shows. I asked her how she found the culture shock of living in Paris, and she said that the secret is to try to blend in with the crowd and that she is making the very most of every minute. She is absolutely loving it, it’s what she has always wanted to do and she is going to keep strutting down those runways for as long as she can. When I asked her if there’s any negatives of the job she said that go-sees are tough and that the rejection never gets any easier to take, but she seems really grounded and knows that it’s just part of the gig, unfortunately.
From my perspective as I sat there and watched all of these perfect girls march down the runway with such confidence, I just couldn’t take my eyes off Tabea. She was flawless and mesmerising and I just thought here’s our one of our very own, up there with the best of them and making her mark around the world, watch her go!
The show itself was amazing. Georges Chakra is all about neons and bright colours and crazy music, it was just so different and a great experience to see it. And not to mention the eyebrows… luckily for Tabea these wash off!
