Todoshi Shoji’s collection floated down the runway today on the main stage at the tents at Lincoln Center. His inspiration sprang from the “enchanting beauty and splendor of the tulip,” which is absolutely evident from the whimsical and delicate vibe of the pieces – the opening dress even mimicked the shape of this flower. Billowy silk linens, embroidered lace, and draped tulle were ever present. Feminine details were abound in the form of ribbon across the bodice, tiers of fluttering accordion pleats, and intricate beading. As for silhouette, it was refreshing to see the heavy use of a drop waist. The color palette of vibrant shades such as magnolia and indigo coupled with neutrals created a graceful atmosphere – the tulip would absolutely be honored by such an homage.
