Tailors/Alterations Specialists

Sorry to impose on the thread, but since my question is very closely related...

I've never had anything altered. To be honest, I've never even thought of it as an option, especially since most of my clothes used to be from Topshop and H+M!
I cant afford designer clothes but am trying to be a little more up-market.

Is tailoring/altering only used on designer clothes, or can anything (within reason) be altered?

I get clothes altered because about 60% of what I get off the rack doesn’t fit. Pants and jeans are always too long (and I have a 32” inseam) or need to be taken in at the waist. Sometimes a deal might just be too good pass up if it needs a minor alteration, but I do have a limit. I have a skirt that is now two sizes too large. I’m just going to give it away or consign it because it will cost $40 to have it taken it. I only paid $80 (on sale) for it.

^^ BaRose, do you have a recommendation for a good tailor in the bay area? Mine is okay for simple things... but maybe not the best for more complex jobs.

If you're in the North Miami area, my mom sews. She can do alterations as well as make clothing from scratch without a pattern.

I'm not sure, but I think she can even do miracles with all these huge girls asking her to let out clothes so it can fit them. O.o...

But yeah, her name's Brenda and she works in the flea market, but she's planning to close shop soon and only work at home for word-of-mouth people.

If you're in that side of Miami and want the contact info, feel free to PM me.
