Yes. I have the catalog. I was the webmaster for North Beach in the later years (was just entering college when this catalog came out) but have quite a large collection of NBL.

I guess you were in heaven being the webmaster, I suspected that you were a leather fan 'cause of your nickname ^_^, like 4 years ago that NBL 87 fall catalog was in EBAY but it got very expensive , since then it has not been listed anymore, they are very rare

Actually Fall 88 is listed and of course I was outbidded

Yeah. I have that one. North Beach was fun. I LOVED going to New York for the catalog shoots. Those were mainly the later years, and John F Cooper would shoot the collection, and Peter Brown did the art design. I was sort of a gopher on the set. I was getting ideas for the web and just loved the atmosphere and helping out. Peter and John were PHENOMENAL to work with. Tow of the nicest people in the world, and I will tell you because NBL started getting cheap in the end, doing a full 18 - 20 page catalog shoot in a day was TOUGH.

It was a dream job for me. I loved working with Michael. Of course I discovered North Beach in my teen years when they were every where. Covers of Cosmo, all over Vogue, in the movies. And what is not to like with the likes of models like Cindy, Christy, Tatjana and on and on.

Different company after Michael left, and WCL has a completely different feel and really does not even design any more, though the later years of North Beach, the styles started to get rehashed.

But back on topic... Now if I could have been there in the late 80s when these catalogs were being shot...

Sorry... Drifting off and imagining what it would have been like on set with Cindy, Tatjana, etc.

the last time I saw NBL ads in Vogue was around 1992, not sure what happened later, maybe wearing Leather in the minimalist 90's was totally out. ^_^

I just read here that NBL had 4 cosmo covers ^_^, btw, Is that one of your NBL designed websites?

Yes, that was one of my websites. I did North Beach from right around 1999 - 2004 and then West Coast from 2005 - 2008.

What is North Beach Leather?

North Beach Leather was a company started by Michael Hoban along with Frank and Bill Morgan. North Beach started out making leather motorcycle jackets for the Hells Angels, and then became popular with folks like Elvis, Cher and hundreds of other of Celebs. At their peak in the late 80s, there was 20 - 25 boutiques world wide with just under 30 million in sales.

Their catalogs of the 80s were like a who's who of modeling featuring Cindy Crawford, Tatjana Patiz, Christy Turlington, Angie Everhart, Rebbeca Romijn, and Daniella Pestova to name a few as well as had top photographers like Ritts and Dixon. Several of North Beach Leather's styles became iconic and are in the Smithsonian. Some of Cindy Crawford's first modeling gigs were for North Beach Leather and shot by Skrebenski... She first started modeling for North Beach in Spring of 1984 when she was still in High School, so I am almost positive that North Beach launched Cindy. Models that graced North Beach in the 80s were doing Versace in the 90s.

90s, North Beach went through a little bit of a consolidation as well as Hoban made a classic mistake and got cheap marketing. North Beach used to do several page ads in the large fashion issues of Vogue among other mags, and North Beach started doing only local ads. In the end, that can be a death knell for any company in the fashion world.

More importantly, North Beach did not stay with the times and tried to market slightly reworked designs to to their core base who had aged and failed to grow younger consumers for whom their fashion was really geared.

But to bring this back to Tatjana, like Cindy, North Beach was one of the companies early on that shot her and helped gain her recognition and fame.

Oh wow!!:woot:Super good for Tatjana!!
