Taylor Momsen

The thing is with the interview, she's just a typical teen. I liked those bands when i was that age, i still do! When i watch her doing a photoshoot with rage against the machine in the background i internally cringe. They're my favourite childhood band along with Ac/Dc and Nirvana. But i do think she does take it that little bit further, to the point where it looks fake. She's living a pretty cushy existence, yet music has had to 'save' her and politics? I've not seen her be politically inclined in anything. Also refusing that she's had any kind of inspiration from female 'rock' singers is ridiculous, hello heroin chic? it's taylor down to a t. It's pretty much the whole aesthetic she's going for.

Teenagers are angsty, i'm 17 and i'm still angsty. I would kill to be fronting a band, p*ssing everyone off by wearing provocative stuff, yet she has the kind of ignorance i had when i was 14. In that sense i think she needs to wake up a bit and STOP DIGGING ON DISNEY!

Tweens like Miley Cyrus very much, and that's not a bad thing. Disney isn't saying "hey Taylor, listen to us, be like us". The whole "i'm not into this disney bubblegum...that everyone is into" yeah, everyone meaning, tweens and young kids. She's not pushing any boundaries, there are rock bands still around, yes granted no new bands that are really that good, but that's just my opinion.

The Beatles, Oasis, Nirvana bla bla bla, it sounds as if she just picked 'some' epic bands to make sure everyone believes she's really into deep music

Yes because certainly no one could genuinely like The Beatles, Soundgarden, Audioslave, The Who, Pink Floyd, AC/DC, and Nirvana.

You people are pathetic.

seconded! i guess thats what i was trying to say, it's not unusual for people to ACTUALLY like the bands she's mentioning. ;)

I wasn't saying that it's unusual to like the Beatles, hell no, but to ME it seems as if she just picked some epic bands to show "See, I know what good music is about!".

Imagine you're a layperson in art, telling everyone that you're into Vincent van Gogh, Monet, Leonardo da Vinci, Picasso, Rembrandt may conceal this fact.

It's not like Taylor wasn't overacting before (writing since she was 2, yeah sure) so it's also very likely that the 'Yeah, dude, I'm listening to Nirvana (....)!" stuff is also fake.

I like her music and I think she's a very pretty young girl but the whole commotion surrounding her kinda pisses me off.

She named 4 of the most popular bands in history, plus 2 of the most popular bands from the 90s. They are all bands that would basically be on every single classic rock fan's list.

If she had said, "my favorite bands are Yeasayer, Fleet Foxes, Salem al Fakir, and The Radio Department," people would have been jumping all over themselves to call her an elitist hipster wannabe who's trying too hard to be indie. If she said she liked Wu Tang and Mastodon, people would have called her a poser who couldn't possibly like those.

At this point I think she could literally tell an interviewer, "my favorite things are TFS, dressing like a clown, and giving stupid quotes so Boomer and strawberry can boost their e-cred", and you guys would still flip out and call her a b*tch.

I finally listened to some songs and I got to say I'm impressed by her voice, but the songs are nothing like she describes them imo. Some songs (most of them actually) are still quite pop-rock and predictable. I like 'my medicine'. Nice song.
It annoys me to no end she keeps comparing her sound to led zeppelin. It's even on her website:
With Momsen’s inky vocals, pummeling riffs, and swaggering attitude, LIGHT ME UP sounds a bit like what might have happened had Led Zeppelin been fronted by “a chick.”
 WTF?
I still can't wrap my head around this quote. It's hilarious.
I have no idea who wrote this but he/she definitely needs to dig up some old led zeppelin records and listen to them.

What I can't believe is that she went to a White Stripes concert when she was 7. What kind of person takes a 7 year old to a rock concert? Especially since, if you look at her childhood pics, she was a cute little blonde girl wearing Abercrombie and Fitch. She would have looked so out of place.

But don't get me wrong, she sure has a lot of potential. This is a very good first (?) album for such a young girl. It's just not as great as she makes it sound imo. I think in a few years time and if she would focus on the music rather than creating her die-hard image we could see great things from her.

Are you seriously criticizing someone for exposing their children to music?

Next thing you know they'll be letting kids dance, too. :o

Have you ever been to a rock concert? Sometimes shady stuff can happen. I have seen people having sex in the crowd, smoking w*** and dealing, drunk people pawing you, etc. It's not a good environment for a SEVEN year old.

If you want to expose your kids to music, play them a CD.

So it's her that's responsible for my terrible E Cred!! :o

Yes I've been to many concerts, including my first concert when I was 8 (Huey Lewis and the News :mohawk: ), several White Stripes shows, and hundreds of shows with kids of all ages in the audience. I've never seen anyone having sex in the audience or drunken pedophiles groping all the children, but I guess all parents should just lock their kids in the house to be safe. Not like 7-year-old Taylor's parents, who obviously just dropped her in front of the venue and told her to fend for herself while the drunks and dealers were descending from all sides.

it's a white stripes concert, not murderdolls or marilyn manson, it's hardly anything too dangerous. The most untoward thing that could happen would be that jack white would start swearing and calling people hipsters :p

Yeah, the experience i just detailed happened to me at a Coldplay concert. As if the music wasn't mellow enough, people decided to smoke it up.

Well nowadays people are smokin' it up in public, in broad daylight...so that hardly surprises me. Point is, at 7 years old, her parents probably kept her up in the assigned seating areas if it was an arena-type show, which it probably was. And why do you guys even believe her? This girl has fake coming out of her ears. That whole "i love loud noise" and "i am badass" crap is hilarious. She knows her look gets attention, and she knows the more ridiculous she is, the more popular she will be. She's more like Miley Cyrus than she admits. She's doing a stupid little Macy's campaign with Madonna. Any legit musician, serious about music, would never do that kind of thing. Do you guys she where I'm going with this? She's not an actual musician, she's a product. And since I don't like her as whatever she is or know her personally, I could care less! All of these posts are probably going to get deleted soon anyway.
