hmmm to me writing jap is easy. i'm learning it now but perhaps it helps cos i have a chinese background. but to me the hardest thing is all the kanji readings.

ok i'm tweaking the rules a little bit cos jap is not my mother tongue (which is Chinese but i suck at it so yeah). please feel free to correct me! would love to learn more!

hello - konnichiwa (korn-knee-chi-wa)
love - ai (eye)
fashion - lol i'm not sure if there is actually a word in jap for this one. i think it's in katakana: fasshon
cool - there's prob slang words for this one but the one i learnt is kakkoii (cark-core-ee)
smile - hohoemi (hor-hor-air-me)
music - ongaku (ong-gar-ku)

hope the phonetics ain't too bad...

Good Japanese:flower:
I was born in India. But I live in Japan since the age of 4, and so I can speak Japanese rather than Hindi well.

good morning - ohayogozaimasu - おはようございます
thank you - arigato - ありがとう
life - seikatu - 生活
beautiful - utukusii - 美しい

As a FYI:
Could everyone please write sentences using "Full" words, not ur instead of You're, or ma instead of MY.

This is an intellengent forum, please treat it as such.

Many Thanks.

italian:

hmm, tough question:blush:
Just as you can't understand how we write in our language, so we can't understand you write in your language^_^
I think Arabic and Russian(all Slavic) are the most difficult languages for many Japanese people.

Do me a favour, please PM me if you choice to converse with me. I am stating the guidelines to you. This is not a play yard.

in Dutch:
goodnight- welterusten (wel-tuh rusten)
It's snowing - het sneeuwt (het sneewt)

some pets: - wat huisdieren:
rabbit - konijn (koo nijn)
dog - hond (hon t)
guinea pig - cavia (kaa vi aa)
horse - paard (paa rt)
bird - vogel (voo gel)

(sorry, I can't really explain how to pronounce because it all seems so logic to me:blush: )

Here's a few words in Brazilian Portuguese
you pronounce it pretty much how you read it

1. bye - "tchau"

2. thank you - women say "obrigada"; men say "obrigado"

3. please - "por favor"

4. world - "mundo"

5. good morning - "bom dia"

6. good afternoon - "boa tarde"

7. good evening/night - "boa noite" [pronounced 'bow-ah 'noy-teh (bow as in the thing you use to shoot arrows; and they o in noy is like the o in open)]

8. life - "vida"

9. music - "música" ['moo-zi-cah]

10. beautiful - "lindo" (men, male); "linda" (women, female)

11. smile - sorriso [so-'hee-zo]

12. happiness - felicidade [fe-lee-cee-'dah-de , but the fe is not how Americans pronounce "Los Feliz" (fee). The e in fe is more like you pronounce the et in French - like in cabaret]

13. happy - feliz [fe-'leez, same thing with the fe]

some expressions:
1. nice to meet you - "prazer em conhecê-lo" [the nh is pronounced like the ñ from the Spanish language. so "conhecê-lo" is something like "co-ñe-se-low" , where both e are pronounced somewhat like the French et]

2. my name is... - "meu nome é..." [the é is pronounced like the first e in expert]

3. how are you? - "tudo bem?"

4. I love you - "eu te amo" [the a is not pronounced like the Spanish a. The Spanished a is opened, the Portuguese a is not. It's more like the way you prounce the u in under]

5. I'm from... - "eu sou de..."

6. I love this place - "eu amo este lugar"

and, of course,
Merry Christmas - "Feliz Natal"

Happy New Year - "Feliz Ano Novo"
