Teach me your language I teach you mine

Dutch
olifant - elephant
pinguin - penguin
dieren - animals
dierentuin - zoo (literally, animal yard)

I know French and Spanish too but I don't speak either fluently lol.

french help!

if anyone here knows at the moment...

I'm having some second thoughts about having the (a + article defini)

Do these make sense?

Ma mere va au centre commercial.
Mon frere va au campus.

something just doesnt seem right having... va+au together
Thanks in advance :)

and wanted to add.... if people don't understand about the prépositions

à + le = au
à + la = à la
à + l' = à l'...

de + le = du
de + la = de la
de + l' = de l'...

I go to the market = Je vais au marché
I'm coming back from the market = Je rentre/reviens du marché

I go to the pool = Je vais à la piscine.

I gave my ... to the enemy = J'ai donné mon .... à l'ennemi.

Please, do not make the same mistake french do i.e :
à is the preposition for the destination
de is the préposition for the provenance

ex :
I gave this cake to Mark = J'ai donné ce gâteau à Mark
This Mark's cake = C'est le gâteau de Mark

I'm going to Paris = Je vais à Paris
I come from Paris = Je viens de Paris

+++++
Do not write : a (for à)!!!
a = has
à = to

omg, i must sound like a teacher.... but hey, the title of the thread is "teach me..."
I hope I didn't do mistakes... lol:lol:

I love learning new languages. Thanks to everyone for posting here :flower:

you need to read french books or magzines. when reading Vogue Paris try to read an article and pay attention to the syntax etc. when you don't understand a word or sentence come there and we'll translate it and explain it... or come there to make your homeworks... everyone is doing it, there^_^
French is pretty difficult (esp. for anglo-saxons...) but if you know your grammar very good... and have some voc. it's gonna be ok...
Grammar is very important in french... but pretty difficult, i know.
i'll support & help you...

thankyou so so much :woot: im going to think of a plan how I can learn it the best possible way over the weekend.

wow, i really like this thread, at one point in my life i wanted to be a linguist!

I went through 7 pages of this thread and saw no Greek. Pretty shocking!

Let's start with the basics:

Hello: Gia sou
How are you: Ti kanies (to someone your age) Ti Kaniete (someone older than you)
Fashion: Moda, Styl
Cool: Oria (more like nice) crio (cool as in cold)
You: Esy, Esi
Happy New Year: Kali Xrono
Happy Birthday/Name Day or any thing you celebrate: Xrona Polla

Anything else you wanna know just ask!

ok, im starting my revision for everything a week on monday, and as BerlinRocks said, im going to focus on grammar, thats what the teacher told me Im bad at  then ill do vocab later, or along with :ermm:

^ JR1, how's my favorite boy in the WHOLE world!!! Good luck with your revision!!!

BabyJ you speak greek? I had no clue!!!

Could somebody, please help me with that short thing? I just can't translate it right, just in general. And please, dont' care about the details, I can't catch up the whole thing

"Tandem de choc: depuis le debut des annees 90, Inez et Vinoodh bousculent la photo de mode, cote revues (mags titles, not important...), cote campagnes (still...) et expos (exhibitions, right?): le Guggenheim de New York ou la Hayward Gallery a Londres les ont exposes. Comme la place Vendome, qui a mis a l'honneur plein air le portfolio (...)"

thanks in advance

^ ;)

Shocking tandem: since the 90s, Inez & Vinoodh are in fashion photography: in mags, advertisements, and exhibitions; Guggenheim Museum in NYC and Hayward Gallery in London exposed their photographs. As did Place Vendome, where they were honoured with an open-air exhibition
(not sure about this last phrase, but imho that should be the sense of it)

;)
