Teach me your language I teach you mine

when I'm watching American shows I often see ' 9/8 central'
I have been wondering what does it mean... anyone can explain me?

^ it is referring to time zones. 9 would be at nine o' clock in one time zone, and the "8 central" means the show will be on at eight o' clock in the central time zone.
...to be honest, i was always a bit confused by that myself :innocent: :flower:

Haha, yes, most Americans can barely figure out time zones! Here's a little example of different time zones:

In California (or my home state, Nevada), it's 8:00 PM. That's the Pacific time zone. Next comes Mountain, where it's 9:00 PM or 8 depending on the season. In Central, it's 10:00 PM, and finally, on the East Coast, or Atlantic time zone, it's 11:00 PM.

So, basically, the West Coast is 3 hours behind the East Coast. Shows tend to run one hour behind the Atlantic in the Central time zone,t hat way they can show live. Those of us that are farther away get pretaped versions, not the live ones.

I hope that makes SOME sense!

mmm I think I got it
it has been a mistery for quite a long time... and I'd never have guessed it was about time zones, thanks a lot!!!!

question: when you say 'i dont care' in french, is it really je me fous/fout [sp?]..isn't the verb foutre slightly rude?.. what's the best way to say it without sounding..hmm..agressif?. :p

^ It's "Je m'en fous"...

A milder version could be "Je m'en fiche", but it's not so popular...;)

Can a Spanish speaker please explain "no te bajes" to me? I know it literally means "you do not lower", but what does it mean in context? Like you don't give up, or you're stubborn?

actually 'je m'en fiche' is popular..it's the normal and correct way to say I don't care..
(the more polite way to say it is 'je m'en moque' but this one is SO not popular!!)

and, it's true that we use more 'je m'en fous' with friends..because it's more familiar, not rude, just a bit more familiar!
(though the verb 'foutre' himself is rude,'je m'en fous' isn't...)

Maybe it has another meaning but I use it, for example, in "no te bajes del coche" (don't get out of the car)...I don't know if it means something else too...

^ :brows: "Ti voglio sedurre"...:p though it sounds more like a line from a soap opera, rather than a normal italian phrase...  :D

No, that's just an expression you'd use when something goes wrong, just normal swearing. Nothing us polite people would use :innocent:

True :rofl::p

Woot! I got 20/20 in my french oral.
It was: 'Your day'.
Things like: je me reveille, je me leve, je me lave, tu prends le petit dejeuner a huit heures, je mange des cerealer et je bois du lait.
It was quite easy but its so cool to know it. :)
