tFS Musicians

I've read about artists who heard their song on the radio for the first time. From Jay-Z to Gaga, it has got to be exhilarating. CONGRATULATIONS.

So I recorded this today...but didn't finish it, I only had a 3 hour break, and it takes longer sometimes for me to record songs...because I mess up and then you have to re-take it...
sooo....
I'm covering Evanescence's song "All that I'm living for."
I didn't cover the whole song.... I'll get around to finishing it sometime... lol
Also.....before I get ridiculed.
I messed up the last line of the first verse...and I didn't finish the chorus after that.

I know. I know. What kind of Evanescence fan am I?
:(

Anyways, here it is.

You sound far away, but I'm sure with better equipment it would sound crystal clear! But from the sound of it, I love it.

Haha thanks. I know. I'll be getting a better mic soon, one that can plug into my laptop.
Lol the mic that I was using is built into my laptop and it soooooo tiny. So that's why the quality is horrible.

Just heard my song on the radio. The most amazing feeling ever!!!

Congratulations!!! How exciting. I've been in bands before, never had our songs put on the radio, because...well we didn't have them copyrighted.
I got asked once, by this guy who was apart of this online radio station, and he wanted one of my songs...but I had to decline.
:(
Because I didn't have it copyrighted. And that's a huge deal to me. I can't put my music out there until I get it copyrighted.
But if I copyright it, I want to make sure it's secure, if any of you know what I mean.
It costs around $50 per song to get it copyrighted, the last time I checked anyways...

But congrats, I hope you hear your song being played on the radio even more! It must be not only exciting, but rewarding.

I play the drums but have no intention to pursue music seriously.

Well, a lawyer friend of mine told me that the alternative to pay for copyright would be to mail a copy of your work to yourself, but never open the package because something dealing in the government postal systems. I didn't do this, but the way he explained it seemed logical. I must ask again! :p

And thanks all, it was amazing! They said is now on regular rotation and it's funny how the things are going. Ckgirlbr, I never thought at all to be a musician, but it just happened (long and crazy story) and it is working out so well! ^_^

I know of that method it's actually called the "poor mans copy" but I'm always worried that it won't be as secure, as going through BMI. You know? I have done the poor man's copy, so they are "copyrighted" you could say, but I'm just so nervous that it's not as secure.

Yeah, I can understand, but I guess many have done it so it works? But definitely is good to make sure. Also, when anything is placed into a recorded format, it is technically already copyrighted. But definitely take the extra to protect your work!

Also important is documenting the "work in progress" stuff, like the unfinished chunks of a song during the writing process, it helps add credibility if you ever had to prove yourself.

That is a very, very good point. It's very smart to do this and to buy an external hard drive to put it on!

Thank you so much you guys! I really appreciate it.

Record Labels Face $6 Billion Damages for Pirating Artists

While the major record labels were dragging file-sharers and BitTorrent sites to court for copyright infringement, they were themselves being sued by a conglomerate of artists for exactly the same offenses. Warner, Sony BMG, EMI and Universal face up to $6 billion in damages for pirating a massive 300,000 tracks.

It is no secret that the major record labels have a double standard when it comes to copyright. On the one hand they try to put operators of BitTorrent sites in jail and ruin the lives of single mothers and students by demanding hundreds of thousands of dollars in fines, and on the other they sell CDs containing music for which they haven’t obtained copyright permission.

In the past we’ve covered many disputes between artists and labels, where the latter is being accused or even sued for using songs without permission. Just a few months ago Latin America’s biggest artist, Alejandro Fernández, sent the police to a Sony Music office to confiscate over 6,000 CDs that the label refused to return, and this is just the tip of the iceberg.

The labels have made a habit of using songs from a wide variety of artists for compilation CDs without securing the rights. They simply use the recording and make note of it on “pending list” so they can deal with it later. This has been going on since the 1980s and since then the list of unpaid tracks (or copyright infringements) has grown to 300,000.

Growing tired of the labels’ piracy, a group of artists have filed a class-action lawsuit in Canada against four major labels connected to the CRIA, the local equivalent of the RIAA. In October last year Warner Music, Sony BMG Music, EMI Music and Universal Music were sued for illegal use of thousands of tracks and at present the case is still underway.

How and why this blatant copyright infringement could go on for years is a mystery, but the labels’ double standard has been picked up by the plaintiffs as well. “The conduct of the defendant record companies is aggravated by their strict and unremitting approach to the enforcement of their copyright interests against consumers,” the artists argue in their claim for damages.

The suit is still ongoing but already the labels have admitted to owing at least $50 million for infringing the rights of artists, and this figure could grow as high as 6 billion. So who are the real pirates here?

hello,

me, i'm a musician.

was in two bands here in NYC.
got out of one to focus more on the other, because i thought we were going places. two months later, after a couple of shows in the city, we brake up

now looking for a new band, well, not really looking, but if an opportunity pops up, why not. i miss being on stage. nothing like it.

guitarist,
bassist,
keyboardist.

i suck at the drums, maybe with practice, but right now i can keep beat, but if i try to play around, i mess up.

not a singer though, but i should be, then i wouldn't have to depend on a band. would do my own thing, go solo. i should take lessons. well, yeah. :mowhawk:

I'm a singer and as a side job I sing in jazz bars. I'd love to do that all day long but as you know gaining ground into the business is very hard.
But it's fun though

i'm so happy i found this thread :buzz:

my main instrument is drums, i've been fascinated with it since i was a
kid. i know a bit of bass as well, and just the basics with guitar. and i've
been in a couple of bands already, doing main vocals, and drums at some.
with the last one, we were about to submit a demo to a recordlabel when
two of the members backed out which was absolutely bad timing, cause
they were incredible and we never got to replacing them. and i kind of lost
heart afterwards, i never had a band ever since.

i still jam with friends at times though, and i still make compositions even if
i'm band-less  i think i'm more of a retired musician cause i've already
had my share of the gig scene and it gets tiring and repetitive at some
point. but i'm still open to getting back again, i mean it's hard to just quit
this altogether when it's already half your life.

Oh definitely it is so hard to stop even if you want to !!

Well I think it's going to be on the next EP/Single if it is liked which is 'Starry-Eyed'! I know there's already the Jakwob remix of the song which is amazing and the song is already amazing itself so ..... it's very hard to remix! It feels like I'm remixing every new British person as I remixed Frankmusik and Marina & The Diamonds earlier this year. It's fun and also weird! Thank you so much!
