The 60's FW 05.06

And McQueen did almost every side of early to mid 60's fashion there was....

sex kitten, almost Marilyn Monroe or Sophia Loren looking....

though not his best collection by any means, it certainly coincides with the 60's mood emerging this season.

And of course, Dior's homage to Edie Sedgewick was very "beatnick" looking....

I could just see these girls at some smoke-filled downtown cafe that only the most creative people visit, listening to the faint sound of the bongos in a remote corner......god what a stereotype

Gucci had a similar mood going on with some of the looks, but not literal at all. The coats especially had the elongated A-line silhouette and when paired with the knee high boots the look is kind of 60's.

Overall I like this trend a lot more then the last time it was in, back in s/s and f/w 03. Back then the look was more girly, more literal and I didn't like it at all.

Dolce really captured the swinging London vibe. It wasn't my favorite collection but it captured the mood perfectly. Loved the hair as well.

This season is not too literal, as it was in 03-04, which I looooved.

I think that the main 60's look for next winter is the short (a bit A-line) coat paired with flat boots.

the balenciaga looks and the dior croc coat-- . The mod look keeps coming back for fall because it's easy for women-- mobility in the mini skirt with tights, and comfort in the cute flat. It's a good reversal from the boho stuff we have now for summer-- more pulled together and stark.

\.

i agree.. 60's refferances are always around but i certainly wouldnt say that fw05.06 is on a 60s trip

Oh cool!

 :woot: Oh I'm loving the sixties this year...maybe it's because i'm sick of the whole "casual-boho trend" A fifties influence too. All this is well and fine, but I wish these designers would quit the whole "period
revival" thing and come up with something new. Are we the only generation that can't come up with a fashion revolution? Guess we'll just have to wait and see.

This is a really cute style, and Gemma Ward pulls it off real well. I'm going to buy stuff like this. It gives me a strong urge to shop. Yay!!

StyleIsInUs, that dress is SO mod and adorable! May I ask what the winning bid was?

the 60s are my favorite era, i love the french new wave look, the chic mod look, and the pinup sex kitten look, not fond of the psychedelic day glow or geometric looks though, i like more of a classic minimalist meets urban romantic feel, i adored that balenciaga season with all the luxe winter white, i always admire chanel's mod looks too, this is definitely my biggest fashion influence because even when i take from other decades/styles i always style it with a simple mod aesthetic in mind

my favorite resources for this look are movies ( in the mood for love, quadrephenia, breakfast at tiffany's, any jean luc godard movie, alfred hitchcock thrillers ) and of course music ( too much to list really but love some of the early classic rock band looks and the motown girl groups )

i hate when the style looks costumey, its easy to make the look contemporary, but sometimes people make it too literal or they go for the psychedelic austin powers vibe haha
