The Best & Worst Catwalkers

I never really understood, like is that hard to walk in heels? I walk in them all the day, I never leave the house without heels, and I wouldn't be caught dead walking around like that on the street, much less a runway.

I've made the same comments in the past, and people have brought up various other ways of explaining it (shoes that don't fit, runway imperfections that we might not see, shaken nerves, etc); but I still find that all hard to believe.

I understand that, all of those components would make even a seasoned walker stumble. But I feel like once you reach a certain point in your career you are allowed to be assertive and make sure you get a shoe in your size. Practice makes perfect. There needs to be more traditional runway lessons going on. Designers and show producers need to tell a girl if her walk is off and how to help them out. It would be my top criteria for booking girl, right after looks. Body comes after the walk in my opinion, if a girl can stomp well it doesn't matter if she's a size 2 or a size 12. The walk is such a selling point for me, but that might just be me.

I think in the last, say, 3 years, the standard has really dropped. Up until about 2011 you had so many girls who could walk that the ones who couldn't (ahem...looking at you Arizona) weren't so much of an issue because you still had so much quality.
I was watching the Blumarine Spring 2010 video the other day (as I do) and it was just girl after girl working that runway up into an inferno....you had Abbey Lee, Kasia, Yulia K, Jac (who was still considered a newbie might I add), Edita, Vlada, Snejana.......talking top level walkers who knew how to make things come alive.
Now, not only are there so many more new girls but ALOT of them can't walk very well and it's just so evident because they're the ones doing all the shows.
I honestly think that a good, strong walk is not even a prerequisite for alot of these designers, if it was, how the HELL are these girls being cast?
So tired of these bland, sad looking 16 year olds wobbling precariously down the runway it just makes me yearn that much more for the Isabeli's and the Maria Carla's..
I also agree, there are many factors which can make a girl's walk a little shaky (the big/small shoe, the uneven runway surface, the nerves) but I'm sorry, if this is your 3rd or even 2nd season and you still suck, it's you. We can't blame the shoes and the nerves if after 40+ shows you still look as if you're going to collapse into a bundle on the ground.

I think every agency should make their newbies watch Versace F/W 06 on a loop until they get their damn walks right. I mean, if you put someone very good like Sasha Luss in that show and she will definitely fall back into "alright" category. Those golden days :(

Why? Why bother focusing on something the designers/casting directors clearly care little about? It's not like there are no girls with good walks. There are plenty. Yet, somehow, those who can barely stand on two feet keep getting cast.

It has us talking about it. The good ole it's-so-bad-it's-good trick, perhaps?

We also talk about good walkers. Plus we actually talk about it in positive terms. Plus, when you're watching a runway show and the first thing that catches your eye is the terrible walkers, then it's counterproductive for your collection, no?

Coco can definitely walk but what bothers me the most is she swing her head slightly left and right. Is it just me?

^^ Given her androgynous look I never knew Binx had such a lovely walk as well.
