This might be the wrong thread but have you seen this documentary: Fashion!? It is also available through Arte: http://www.arte.tv/fr/fashion/6984538.html

It's three hours long but FASCINATING. Really. I've seen it in French on TV, but ordered the DVD with English subtitles (I think). It covers the last three decades of fashion in great depth.
