THE END OF A FASHION ERA - Gianfranco Ferre haS died :-(((
Planet fashion is in mourning this week with the sad news that Gianfranco Ferre, the Italian mastermind designer, who stood the helm at Christian Dior for nearly ten years, has died aged 62.
The Italian fashion designer passed away at Milan's San Raffaele hospital on Sunday, and official statement from the hospital said he died after suffering a brain haemorrhage.
Never one to conform to the stereotypical designer image, the kind-faced designer already suffered from diabetes and, according to Italian media, had previously been hospitalised for two strokes.
Known in the industry as the man to go to for sharp tailoring, or more controversially, for real fur. Ferre lead the charge as artistic director at Christian Dior for nearly ten years from 1989.
Ferre was due to present his spring/summer 2008 menswear collection on June 24 as part of Milan's ready-to-wear menswear fashion shows.
"I ... particularly admired him for his coherence and the intellectualism and artistry upon which he based his fashion philosophy until the end," said Giorgio Armani in an official statement on Sunday.
