The Last Movie You Saw?

just finished watchin thirteen and mean girls...i feel all teenaged out...both really wierd films... thirteen was not shot using a tripod, leaving the viewer with a headache along witht he heavy subject matter and sometimes mean girls was to stupid to be taken seriously...

I watched Man on Fire on the way back from my grandma's house in Florence and I absolutely loved it. I didn't think I would, but I did. It was so sad though.

And than last night my family gathered around and watched Gone With the Wind for the bizzillionth time. I love that movie.

Blow-Up, a major film from 1966. It's really a cult film and dealt with the world of photography and models and just the decade as whole. However, there was so much of it that I didn't understand at all and likely probably missed. I've been reading some reviews of it now to try to get a better sense of what it was about. Apparently there were a bunch of different hidden meanings that I noticed, but that didn't quite "click." For example, there's a troup of mimes that keep on showing up over the course of the movie, roaring around in their jeep and screaming out things. The ending shot has them playing an invisible game of tennis, the main character of the movie, a photographer, goes to retrieve the ball and then everyone vanishes and the film ends. Too much over my head, really. Another interesting thing that I hadn't even really gotten the importance of was in the beginning section, there are two blacks nuns walking by, wearing totally white garb. I was just reading from here... http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detai...351359?v=glance
Even though I didn't get the movie, I'm still glad I saw it at last, it seems like an important element towards understanding that period. This is the movie poster; various famous 60's women are constantly taking their tops off for the photographer, for no real reason.

I just watched "The Last Samurai" after much opposing (I thought it looked really bad  ), but after watching the movie I thought it was beautiful and absulutly Brilliant. I think everyone should at least take a look at it......it's such a moving story.

A week ago I also watch "The House of Sand and Fog" and I must say that it is also a truly noteworthy movie.

Happy Movie watching!

Alexander  (2004, Oliver Stone) -

Alexander, Oliver Stones latest film after 4 years,
is lurid, explosive, operatic and flamboyant and
bland and boring.

If you break it down youll see Stone's dreadfully
dull epic consists of about 10% battle scenes and
about 90% dialogue. The battle scenes jump and
rattle around making little sense. Stone has failed
to clearly capture chaos, and instead has
chaotically filmed a mess. After one battle, it's up
to the narrator to inform us what has happened
because the scene itself has completely failed.

As for the dialogue, the film begins almost
immediately with a long speech by our narrator,
the aged Ptolemy (Anthony Hopkins). IMO, it's like
being in school, pinned down by a monotone
teacher; you tend to not listen.

Along the way, we come to understand that
Alexander traveled a great distance over many
years conquering new lands. But why he does this
and how it affects the known world is never made
clear, even through the lengthy, wordy
explanations.

In summary, the film fails because it is made to be
just mildly interesting and most of the time just
downright boring.

I'm clearly not going to give into hype anymore. I want my 3 hours back.

I'm going to see Howard Hawk's Rio Bravo, Altman's McCabe & Mrs. Miller and Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odessey tonight and tomorrow.
