For me, the Julia Nobis editorial is really one of those rare moments when a fashion team strikes gold and develop a style story instead of a 'fashion' one. It's just so believable in the relaxed cool it shows, and the casual styling works perfectly with Nobis' casual vibe and Ghertner's casual brand of photography. There's no elaborate posing or unnecessary effects. A masterful minimalist edit like this is actually not that easy to achieve. I'd take this one edit over anything shown in the very important March issue of VP.
Suzanne Koller is truly one of the most directional creative directors right now. She understands that while having an aesthetic or identity is crucial, you don't need all the work to have one single narrative. Her style at this supplement is inherently minimalist in tone, but she presents it from a variety of viewpoints. The Ghana story is actually minimalist too, as is Jana Julius' beach edit or Adut's, but not any of it is identical. That is what fashion should be about. You can't fill a magazine with b&w studio photography and call it a day.
