The Most Beautiful Dress You've Ever Seen...

I also found this Sophia Kokosalaki dress quite gorgeous, though it's very simple. The light, airy aura of the dress combined with the buttery yellow tone makes for a unique piece.

This gown from Dior HC f/w 97 is just plain stunning. Everything about it, the shapes, the pleating, the gold leafing in the bodice.....

I love this one from the infamous Dior s/o 00 Homeless collection, it's kind of elegant in a perverse sort of way, and I love the shoulder portion.

And finally the dress that I consistently go back to as the most beautiful thing I've ever seen. A cross between the late 19th century Victorian silhouettes of Boldini's paintings and the beautiful tribal beadwork of the Masai tribe from Dior HC s/s 97

I know they're all from Galliano, but when he does something beautiful it's so dead on.

Thank you all for your inspiring posts!
This thread has given me inspiration for an upcoming post on my blog.

It's so funny, some of the dresses here make my jaw drop - others I just don't consider to be dresses. I feel the most beautiful dress is almost unwearable - but just wearable enough to envision oneself in it. Some of these are downright tacky or unflattering, some of them I can see cheap floozies binge drinking down the pub in...others are almost ethereal.

and I would love to have somewhere to wear that first chloe dress, so understated yet beautiful

I think so too. :ninja: Some of the choices are really surprising; I would have thought they were the dresses that would be universally ugly. But I guess that just goes to show the wide range in personal taste/opinion!

I absolutely adore these three dresses. Sorry they're thumbnails; it wouldn't let me put in the whole picture here for some reason.

also, that Lanvin season is stuck in my mind as the best. And somehow, it seems, one that had the least exposure. Maybe I'm wrong...

While I'm on the dress topic, here are another two of my faves, both from s/s 2005, which, in retrospect, was a very rich season. Strapless Lanvin dress, and an amazing Jil Sander piece.
