I think there is a big difference between Making a statement and making ugly clothes.

Rick is making a statement strapping people to each other. His clothes are never straightforward and 'nice'. They're always something different.

Balmain is hideous and jumped up and genuinely horrific design with no thought and interest.

For Rick Owen, the clothes themselves (barring the models hanging upside down) are pretty horrible on their own in my opinion

Especially given they are ready to wear and in theory, should be wearable in real life

I'm not sure what statement he is trying to make, though seeing those looks on the runway with the "human backpacks" looked plain tacky and very stunt like

I actually love that first dress. The styling is quite tacky but it's a beautiful piece.
