Hey, at least we can't criticise them for their overly-derivative work here...but then again, this was when Marchesa used to make harmless, frothy dresses.

Considering that Marchesa shows at NY before Balmain in Paris, and it's the same season, wouldn't Balmain be taking liberties instead or is the reverse being implied...
PS: That Balmain outfit is probably the only thing I've ever liked from that house.

Well that Marchesa dress was shown only three weeks before the Balmain one, so I doubt it. I don't even think I could accuse Marchesa of doing such a ridiculous thing.

I was trying to think where I had seen a similar dress to that Rolland one and it finally hit me:
