Did Karl just chop off this McQueen skirt and bung some sequins on it?

John G for Maison Margiela vs John J for Dior HC S/S 2007

It's so funny that Alaia example, cause tonight we saw a similar thing happen.

Funny how both Tom Ford and John Galliano essentially remade dresses from their work at previous houses now under the new labels they are designing for!

Actually, Tom retains marketing access of everything he designed at YSL and Gucci. That's why it was called at the time Tom Ford for Gucci & Tom Ford for YSL RG. So it's the TF for YSL dress but called Tom Ford custom now.

Maybe John dress is in tune with the Artisanal concept... And i believe he doesn't have the same contract as Tom.

I don't believe that dress shape even qualifies as original anymore. I've seen so many variations of it from numerous designers.

Everything John did at Dior was always marketed as 'Dior by John Galliano'.

I was going to post that. :)

At first I thought it was something like Marchesa cause Amal is with Clooney, they're Hollywood, Harvey Weinstein has a way of getting stars to wear his wife's brand.

At first i thought she wore Dior Couture

It took me a while to see why I liked the original Dior better. The gradation goes from light to dark. In Amal's dress, it goes from dark to light from top to bottom. I think it looks better the way the color goes in the original Dior.

Not that it matters now, anyway. We won't see anything of this sort from the current aesthetic of the house.

Jonathan Saunders has similar stuff going into stores right now as well, inspired by his S/S '15 collection.

Black strapless dress with pearls on it. I see the similarity, but I think it is plausible that two designers had the same idea independently. The Chanel one is lovely. If you are going to rip someone off - do it better! It is pretty accepted to copy and improve.

Amal's Maison Margiela Dress VS Oscar de la Renta Fall Winter 2015

*For me, its the contrasting materials, and the contrasting shades - a bit of a stretch but a similarity.

Tom stated that the dress Rita wore was YSL, not Tom Ford - my only guess is that the dress may have been produced in Red back in the day but wasn't shown but was a colour option for stores? idk

No I agree. I know JG didn't corner the tiered sfogliatella look, but his work at Dior was such a showstopper in design and color, the way he approached that formula and turned it into something else, it's what makes me put that as the gold standard.
